23rd dec - What's On! newsletter - The Christmas Wrappers braved the snow in the Square last Saturday, largely thanks to Keats who came to the rescue after it was decided to abandon putting up the PIG tent in such hazardous conditions. Members of Excelsis choir, despite the billing, treated shoppers to traditional Christmas Carols as Santa did his rounds and his elves and reindeer got to grips with some very odd shaped parcels. more...

18th dec - What's On! newsletter - With snow lying all about us, more forecast later, and improving odds of a white Christmas, maybe it's time to stop dreaming. It should be a jolly affair in the square tomorrow morning between 10am and 1pm with Christmas music ringing out, singing from Excelsis choir, teas and coffees, a raffle, a festive bran tub for the children and a visit from BIG Santa. Please also bring along your gifts to be beautifully wrapped by the blue fingered Christmas Wrappers. more...

11th dec - What's On! newsletter - Have you seen the Christmas tree in the Square? Best one yet I'd say, and so expertly erected, and artistically lit. In a couple of weeks it'll be almost over, bar the shouting. Presents opened, batteries inserted, you should hopefully be settling in front of the fire for a snooze or to watch the Queens speech, whatever..., but not too close mind, if you've indulged in an excess of those seasonal sprouts. The BIG event this weekend is of course the Grayshott Christmas Market. more...

4th dec - What's On! newsletter - Unfortunately I mysteriously lost FTP access to grayshott.com last night and until this technical glitch can be restored this means it cannot be updated. Fortunately this doesn't prevent me sending you an email in the meantime with all the latest info ... Andy Whittam has advised me that Grayshott Primary School are holding their Christmas Fair tomorrow Saturday 5th Dec 2 til 4pm with all the usual Christmas stalls - just 50p entry per family. more...

27th nov - What's On! newsletter - On Wednesday afternoon Christmas officially got underway in Grayshott as the village lights were switched on for the festive season by our likely future MP Damian Hinds accompanied by his wife Jacqui. Children were treated to fairground rides on the village green whilst mums and dads warmed on mulled wine and roasting chestnuts - there was no sign of santa, who had perhaps stopped of at the pub, but it all went jolly well nevertheless. more...

20th nov - What's On! newsletter - Christmas is definitely in the air and there must be a conjugation of the stars or planets or something next Wednesday as Grayshott goes crimblespheric. It's going to be a tight itinerary so let me be your celestial guide... First of all you need to get yourselves down to the village green by 5pm on the 25th Nov when Damian Hinds will be switching on our Christmas Lights. Once the ooohs and aaahs have subsided there is a kiddies corner with free rides, candy floss & donuts and more...

13th nov - What's On! newsletter - OK it may not have been the biggest bang in Grayshott, but the November Extravaganza at the Fox & Pelican last Sunday was certainly no damp squib. I hear most of the fireworks went off and in roughly the right direction - has Pyro Phil missed his calling? All good stuff and it raised some cash for Macmillan too. Ooh aah. Don't forget to claim your free re-usable shopping bag tomorrow. You should already have received a letter from EHDC with a voucher more...

6th nov - What's On! newsletter - A bumper edition this week. Listen carefully, I shall say this only once...Judging by the many favourable comments received since FirkinFest we all had a jolly good time. The music, all of it, was just great, and created just the best festival atmosphere, with the Upbeat Beatles putting the head on the beer. The good news is it will all happen again next year and hopefully by then word will have spread and even more villagers will discover the joys of plucking this new string to Grayshott's bow. more...

30th oct - What's On! newsletter - At 6pm tonight Grayshott will at last have earned it's place on the beer festival map of Great Britain. And as you might expect Grayshott does not do things by halves so we can look forward to enjoying possibly the best inaugural beer festival that has ever been. FirkinFest is not just about beer though, although that will indeed be available in halves, it is about bringing together a community to enjoy together the combined delights of good drink, food and entertainment in a relaxed atmosphere. more...

23rd oct - What's On! newsletter - Only one week left to FirkinFest and amongst the growing excitement is the big question - has Bill Nickers been nicked? or is Bill Nickers innocent? And if all that speculation deflects attention from any possible hat eating activities, so much the better, in fact Bill Nickers, bless his light fingers, has played right into my hands. As it happens, tickets for the forthcoming beer festival have been flying out of Grayshott Books ever since we announced it would be just £2.50 a pint. more...

16th oct - What's On! newsletter - Only two weeks now to the FirkinFest beer festival and amongst the growing excitement is the big question - will we sell out? or will that hat have to be eaten? Perhaps the delightful prospect of witnessing this ignominy could be the motive behind the mysterious disappearance of all the FirkinFest posters from the three village noticeboards this morning. Or, could it be that there's a hat shop somewhere in Grayshott hoping to increase its sales? more...

9th oct - What's On! newsletter - It's not often I find myself drooling over the keyboard when I'm updating grayshott.com - it's usually only enjoyable up to a point - but this week, as I have been posting up the list of beers for FirkinFest on the web, my PC has been in serious danger of short circuiting. To be accurate the 'FirkinList' although hosted on the grayshott.com server actually forms part of a brand new bespoke website www.firkinfest.co.uk which has all the latest info on Grayshott's first Beer festival more...

25th sep - What's On! newsletter - As I was putting up the posters for FirkinFest in the village yesterday (more of which later) I couldn't help noticing the proliferation of posters for this years Boundary Walk. I take my hat off to Gordon Sanderson who must surely carry off the 'Bill Stickers' award for 2009 even beating that dream team at Grayshott Concerts. more...

18th sep - What's On! newsletter -Last weekend was exceptional with the Gurkha Square Bash and Grayshott Concerts "Eroica" more than living up to our high expectations. I'm delighted to announce that we have booked 'The Upbeat Beatles' to play at Grayshott Village Hall on Sat 31st Oct in a 'FirkinFest Fab Four Finale'. more...

11th sep - What's On! newsletter - If you haven't already, then you're leaving it a bit late! This Friday afternoon is your last chance to get your tickets from Grayshott Books for Sunday's Gurkha Square Bash. We have 100+ already, but the more the merrier and the more we will be able to raise for the Square refurbishment project. We have a sumptuous three course nepalese buffet lunch provided by the Gurkha Durbar, hopefully a piper and dancers to liven things up, and you can be assured the square, as usual, will look more...

Lets look at some of the events happening in the next few weeks and recent postings - but first... This week over 80 children boarded 'The Starship Discovery' bound for the Holiday Club at St Luke's Church. more...

31st jul - What's On! newsletter - Another very quiet week in Grayshott so in true Brit tradition lets talk about the weather. As a wet July comes to an end we can only hope August will be less disappointing. June spoilt us with less than average rainfall and heatwaves but you'd be surprised to hear July has also seen warmer-than-average temperatures. The big difference has been above average rainfall - we would normally expect around 7cm in July and got 12cm. more...

29th may - What's On! newsletter - It's beer today and beer tomorrow! Having sampled a few I can thoroughly recommend the Beacon Hill Beer festival which opens at 6pm today in the Royal British Legion Hall in Beacon Hill. There is a fabulous range of 24 real ales to taste plus a selection of local ciders and their usual collection of "World Beers" - bottled beers from all around the world . My recommendation is Bowmans "Quiver" which certainly hit the spot last year. more...

Local golf celebrity Peter Alliss will be starting the proceedings at the Beacon Hill Funny Run on Sunday morning and it sounds as though it may well be worth a trip over the border as indeed it is for their excellent beer festival at the end of May. more...
|
1st may - What's On! newsletter - Unusually for grayshott.com the village diary is a bit blank this week so lets skip forward to next week, which makes up for it, and look quickly at what's in store; Next Tuesday Ferris Cowpers band Undercover returns to the village Social Club with a new lineup and a Grayshott debut for his other band The Beagles - should be a great night of live music - it's free entry and all are welcome to the club which is in Hill Road. |
24th apr - What's On! newsletter - There may still be a chance to catch Spend Spend Spend the latest Grayshott Stagers production at the Village Hall. This musical takes you on the rags to riches to rags journey of a simple Yorkshire lass who was unlucky enough to win the pools - it's enough to stop you playing the lottery. The stagers performances, including Grayshott celebrities Kevin & Alan Kaighin, are really excellent and quite moving and it's a great evening of quality entertainment. Hopefully some tickets are still available for the showings tonight and tomorrow and it won't cost you a fortune. more
|
3rd apr - What's On! newsletter - Villagers will be flocking to the village hall tonight for the Annual Parish Assembly which always proves to be more lively and interesting than some might imagine. This is a great opportunity for the public to debate issues that are currently vexing them with our local councillors. Green issues are bound to provoke discussion and to help facilitate this there is now also an online Greening Grayshott messageboard for you to share your views. more

27th mar - What's On! newsletter - Green is the colour, football is the game. Grayshott saw the green light last weekend as Grayshott Primary School pupils and Cub Scouts helped launch the Grayshott Greening campaign with a video presentation and a demonstration on saving water yet maintaining perfect teeth for all. They showed how we can, and why we must, all do our bit to reduce energy consumption and help reduce the emissions from fossil fuels which are causing Global warming. more

20th mar - What's On! newsletter - Karl Jenkins delighted a packed audience at St Luke's Church last Saturday with both his Stabat Mater, performed by Excelsis, soloists Belinda Sykes and Joyce Tindsley with the Grayshott Festival Orchestra conducted by the very talented Rob Lewis, and by making a personal appearance at the concert with his wife Carol. 6th feb - What's On! newsletter - The week has been dominated by the 'snow event' sweeping Britain and Grayshott. I'm not sure why this isn't simply referred to as snow any more but whatever, it all adds up to a load of snow balls. Many have enjoyed the time off work and school this blizzard excused them from and the opportunity to create snowmen, or is that now 'snowpeople', and generally lark about. Others took the opportunity to capture their antics and the snowy scenes on their digital cameras more...

30th jan - What's On! newsletter - It was reassuring to see that the sentiment among local businesses at this weeks BIG meeting was still positive despite the gathering economic clouds. However considering the depth and duration of the recession we seem to be entering our local shops, restaurants and services will need every bit of local patronage to help minimise the casualties. If you missed the BIG meeting and would like to catch up on the latest issues please have a read through Dick Smiths excellent minutes. more...
