Dear subscriber
This Saturday the Grayshott Gardeners hold their Summer Show in the village hall between 2pm and 4pm. This year they are also hosting the 'Close Brooks' competition in which Grayshott is competing with 6 of our neighbouring villages to display the best collection of cut flowers, fruit, vegetables and a pot plant! Entry is free and there'll be tea & cakes.
Also next Thursday the Social Club hosts a Jam Night for the youngsters. You wouldn't have thought, at their age, they would be that interested in conserves.
In the news this week Anything Goes at the Grayshott 24 and the Grayshott Stagers have a read through of their next play 'Dark Lucy' next Wednesday prior to auditioning on Sat 24th July.
Also on the 24th July Grayshott Pottery are firing up for a Raku day. What's Raku? you may ask. Some kind of Indian head massage perhaps, or Mediterranean firewater, no, its a Japanese smoking technique designed to make you glaze over.
There is a lovely irony in the latest warning from Neighbourhood Watch about a scam emanating from London and possibly doing the rounds which involves extorting money for advertising in a fake publication - 'Neighbourhood Watch Brochure'.
The Village Archive has a new chairman in Phil Bates, and he certainly knows all about the history of Grayshott, first hand. They have also dusted off their old website - so to help point visitors in their direction there is now a link on the grayshott.com home page welcome panel.
Apparently 'The Old A3' over the punchbowl is going to be closed sooner than we thought and before the tunnel is finished. Don't panick! It's just for the first two weekends in October, but nevertheless we should experience the sort of Mayhem predicted by the old Stoatwobblers should the tunnel ever get blocked, which was one of the arguments for preserving the old A3 i.e. as a diversonary route. And now, just think of the poor people living in Thursley. Another closure of the South old A3 planned from the 2nd August for a few weeks between Hazel Grove Junction and Crossways road just means we have to divert through the village.
'Old Stoatwobbler' is just one of the beers appearing at this years FirkinFest held on the last weekend of October at the village hall and festival organisers got very excited this week as they booked the 'Rollin Clones' tribute band for Saturday night which should ensure satisfaction and another FirkinSellout. If you can't wait, check out the beer festival at the Crossways Inn in Churt this weekend.
Now to last Wednesday night. Despite the top billing, the play in the first half just seemed to drag on and on and the interval drinks couldn't come soon enough, when it was generally agreed it was all much a do about nothing. Those who laboured on however spent the second half on the edge of their seats, or at least it felt like it, until at last they were rewarded with a goal.
Those more fortunate spent the evening at the Shakesperience with Picnic & Polo at Applegarth and I'm sure we will have a news item from the Bard for you next week.
The world cup in the meantime draws to a close on Sunday with the Final and the big question is; Holland or Spain? You could find out by watching the game. On the other hand it might just be more entertaining to tune in to Psychic Paul the Octopus.
Have a good weekend.
