Dear subscriber
This Saturday at noon the Grayshott Primary School Summer Fair gets underway on the school fields with plenty to see and do. I was really impressed last year with how busy it all was and it's reassuring to see this annual village event going from strength to strength. We are so fortunate to have such a super village school in our midst and it's a real credit to the latest generation of Parents and Teachers who continue to raise much needed funds to better our childrens education, so do go along and give them your support and have a jolly good time.
'Anything Goes' at The Grayshott 24 last weekend was a great success and next Wednesday 7th July Grayshott Concerts also treads the boards down at Applegarth. Peter tells me "The lovely weather, it seems, has made the minds of many Grayshott folk turn to thoughts of balmy English summers under the trees, sampling the delights of succulent picnics with strawberries and cream . . . plus the amusement of some of the Bard's best humour. In short, we're selling lots of tickets for the wonders of Grayshott's very first 'Shakesperience' with supper, polo and 'Love's Labour's Lost'! So we're now out of £15 performance tickets and only a few £20 & £25 seats left. If it goes on like this and there's still 6 days to go we might have to hire in more chairs. And don't worry, there'll be masses of food ready at only £15 extra for those coming to the play. It'll be the Shakesperience of a lifetime!"
Most would agree that the Grayshott Carbuncle award should probably go to Grove House so it is good to hear the owners Reef Estates are planning a makeover. The recession has left much of the office space vacant and yet there is still a shortage of accommodation in Grayshott so the conversion of the first floor offices to eleven flats will be welcomed. The planning application which is currently going through EHDC also includes an extension to the ground floor to provide two good sized shop units which should ensure we can accommodate a good second supermarket in Grayshott. The owners are very keen to include any changes to help improve the visual impact and recent discussions with 'Grayshott Society' have already born fruit. You may also be interested to hear that the fight to save Undershaw continues and you can lend it support by supporting an application to restore it sympathetically as a single dwelling.
You cannot be serious! The ball was definitely over the line! Fortunately for Andy Murray, tennis got its act together over line technology years ago, so he will not suffer the same fate as Lampard and England when he plays Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon men's semi-finals today. Perhaps football needs the likes of a John McKenroe to wake up Sepp Blatter, president of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, and tell him to sort it out or FIFA off.
The world cup competition limps on and is as much a victim of myopia as poor old England but for football fans the quarter finals today and tomorrow and the semis next Tuesday and Wednesday and Final on Sunday week will still be a spectacle worth watching. In particular if you are after some natural justice the Germany Argentina game tomorrow at 3pm, following the school fair, should inevitably provide some satisfaction.
Come on Andy!
