Dear subscriber
We have another busy world cup weekend lined up for you in Grayshott - kicking off with the England game tonight, live music from our world cup winning era tomorrow, and finishing with plenty of vuvuzela at the Sunday Funday.
Talking of PIGS - last week things were looking a bit grim for Portugal, Italy and Greece and Spain looks to be in real trouble. No, I'm not talking about looming sovereign insolvencies but more importantly their world cup performances. Hopefully our performance on the field will not mirror our national debt - we should take heart from Greece who have found winning ways at last. At a time when our British reputation has been well and truly tarred we should also take Hart, or James, to avoid any further embarrassing spills.
If you want to drink in all the thrills of the world cup atmosphere along with something to calm your nerves, the match will be screened at the pub and club at 7.30pm tonight, where I'm sure you will be most welcome.
Taking a short break from the TV action the Social Club has decided to put on some live music on Saturday night with 'Jumpstart' playing pop and rock covers from the 60's and 70's into the night. England could certainly do with a good zap and hopefully we'll be celebrating some sort of victory over Algeria before the Slovenian nailbiter next Wednesday - I hope you have wangled the afternoon off!
The Sunday Funday gets underway at midday with the Headley road closed to traffic between fiveways junction and the Fox & Pelican. If you need to get from one side of the village to the other use the A3 to take the diversion down Crossways road, or if your suspension can take it cut through Boundary Road or you can go down the leftside of the Coop and use Church lane into Whitmore Vale Road or vice versa. Far better leave your cars at home and come and enjoy what promises to be a fabulous afternoon of fun and entertainment.
On Lyndon Green we have the traditional maypole dancing from Grayshott Primary School pupils at 1pm followed by the 'World Cup Safari' procession at 2pm. Please spread out, up and down Headley Road, between the Village Hall and Fox & Pelican to get a good view and cheer the procession on - change at the ready to fill the yellow buckets.
After the procession we have music on the Lyndon Green stage starting with the community steel pan orchestra 'Sounds of Steel' at 2.45pm followed by, a change to the advertised schedule, Swinging Country Rockin Honky Tonk Hillbilly Jazz band the 'Western Aces' at 4.15pm. Popular local band 'Something for the Weekend' will take the stage at 5.45pm rockin and a poppin us to a 7pm close.
There's plenty else going on through the afternoon with Miles funfair on the main green, St Luke's Church are holding a gift day and they'll be several stalls dotted around.
There will also be plenty to eat and drink with a pimms bar, village bar, Kaighin & Daughter hog roast, Buttys BBQ and Gurkha Durbar nepalese on Lyndon Green and an additional hog roast and bbq at the Fox & Pelican as managers Kim & Mark encounter their first village funday.
The total bill for the Funday does mount up but all the stalls etc contribute to the fund so you can spend your money freely and please buy our community raffles tickets and get rid of all that annoying loose change into those yellow buckets to help us pay for it all.
A big thank you in advance to all the many volunteers who will be helping on the day.
The forecast for Sunday is for a perfect sunny 20 degrees so don't forget to factor up and come and enjoy the lot.
We don't like to blow own own vuvuzelas but once again, and I think you'll agree, our Party in Grayshott team really have come up trumps.
Come on England, again!
