Dear subscriber

Custom CookiesIn case you hadn't noticed the world cup starts today with the opening match at 3pm this afternoon between the hosts South Africa and Mexico. The Social Club have spent the last few weeks preparing for this bonanza and you just won't believe the aladdins cave of flags and world cup memorabilia that awaits fans as they flock to the view all on the giant screen. It may well be standing room only for the England games and I guess we'll find out tomorrow night at 7.30pm, when we play the USA, whether we are likely to beat the 10 to 1 odds of winning the cup. If we can dream, lets hope at least we can avoid the nightmare of another penalty shoot out....

Whilst dads are out enjoying the footy there is an opportunity to escape to Grayshott Pottery and paint a gift for Fathers day or just for fun - perhaps an England mug? The Grayshott based Custom Cookie Co have come up with a footytastic range of world cup cookies and many other gift ideas for Fathers day such as a cookie toolbox, cookie gardening set, cookie golf course but strangely no cookie hoover or cookie washing up sets.

This year Fathers day coincides with the Sunday Funday on June 20th and you should by now have received your flyer through the door - that is unless you live in east Kingswood Firs when you will get yours later. We have a very special day organised and of course good weather has been ordered which is why we are getting all the June rain out of the way now. Come and marvel at the World Cup Safari procession, get dizzy over the schools Maypole dancing, rust to the 'Sounds of Steel', and don't forget 'Something for the Weekend'. Binky sends his apologies from Germany so we are playing subtitutes the 'Western Aces' instead of his 'Dixie Demons' and they are bound to score highly. If you'd like to help out with the funday please ring David Phillips on 01428 606036.

Bridget Mitchell is retiring from Little Sunflowers pre-school at the end of this term after 26 years of leading, I'm sure sometimes over troubled waters, and the committee and parents are organising a party to thank her on Saturday 17th July, 2pm to 4pm at the village hall, and would like to extend an invitation to past pupils, parents, professionals and anyone that has known Bridget during her time at Little Sunflowers. Little Sunflowers are currently looking for a new deputy supervisor.

Following their roof raising race night at the club, PK Pre-School were further rewarded with an Ofsted inspection rating them as outstanding across all areas of inspection, which is a real achievement and a reflection of the hard work and dedication put in by Carol and all the PK team. Worth celebrating with a night out on the tiles I should say.

Of course the real test for both pre-schools will be the standard of their floats in the funday procession and, although hard acts to follow, if you fancy putting together a float or walking procession it's not too late - you just need to get yourselves along to the village hall before the off at 2pm. It's all just for fun, the theme couldn't be easier, and this year it's even less strenuous for the little ones as we are terminating the procession in the Peter Leete car park instead of St Luke's Church as we don't want to run over their gift day.

The Square refurbishment is really coming on with most of the paving done and the four tree pits dug in readiness. Work has ground to a halt this week though as we wait for the bespoke curved stone steps to arrive from China and so the works may run a little longer than anticipated. Please support the businesses in the Square who have had to endure the disruption - and come to that, especially whilst the recession drags on and threatens double dipping, please do buy in Grayshott wherever you can.

Our village restaurants need support too and we are lucky to be blessed with so much choice. You will see raffle tickets on sale to raise funds for Party in Grayshott events and guess what - all the prizes are a meal for two, in each and every restaurant in the village - so please buy plenty of tickets but don't wait around to win, make your reservations now. The latest hot news from Kemal is that the Kapadokya is set to make a return. As it wanes for the last time next Friday we can say arrivederci La Bella Luna, as Kemal welcomes us in for an open evening to see his impressive new BBQ and celebrate the return of the Kapadokya special. It's enough to make your toes tingle at the thought!

8th jun - Paint a gift at Grayshott Pottery - for your Dad or just for fun! - Adults and children are being offered another chance to get creative by painting their very own plate or mug, in the Grayshott Pottery workshops on Saturday 12th June 2010.

This second painting event will be hosted by Grayshott Pottery's artists and designers and the Pottery are hoping that the day will be as successful as their Mother's Day event in March, which attracted around 35 participants. Sessions last one hour and can be booked from 10am through to 4pm.

The finished pieces are then expected to be fired during the week, ready for collection from Friday 18th June, just in time for Father's Day on Sunday 20th June. more...
