Dear subscriber
The launch of the Grayshott Community Plan on Wednesday evening in the village hall was very well attended indeed. A packed audience listened attentively to the excellent speaker from Buriton who explained how they had carried out the process, which they started 10 years ago, and list the many benefits that have sinced accrued to the village. Hearing all this one couldn't help wondering though how on earth Grayshott ever managed to achieve as much as it has without one of its own? But then again one wonders how much more we could have achieved and how much easier it would have been to attract funding for projects such as building a new pavilion. So I say "better late than never" and we should all support this project enthusiastically and make sure we contribute to the consultation process. What do you say?
Dr Nigel Baldock joined Grayshott Surgery in 1981, the same year, co-incidentally, as another fresh faced professional from Sheffield arrived on the Grayshott scene. Nigel has decided to retire a year earlier than planned and has left a message for his patients some of whom may have yet to hear this. I'm sure we all wish him well and I hope he enjoys a well deserved rest after 30 years although if my experience is anything to go by, things are about to get busy.
If you have the relevant experience and qualifications you may be interested to know that Little Sunflowers Pre-School, who operate at Grayshott Village Hall, are currently advertising for a Pre-School Deputy Supervisor and Pre-School Assistant. Experience in float building would also be an advantage as the Little Sunflowers always excel at the Sunday Funday procession. This years theme is "World Cup Safari" which should offer plenty of stimulation for the little grey cells, and there is plenty of time to plan your float in time for Sunday June 20th. This years competition should be fierce, so get floating, and remember it's a jungle out there.
I suppose we can expect the weather to deteriorate, as per usual, as we head into the early May bank holiday, so looking at indoor pursuits this weekend what's on offer in Grayshott?
It's return of the red-eye on Saturday night as the club welcomes back Ska Wars to perform their classic rawcus 2-tone. Tickets are still available but if you don't want to risk being disappointed (we sold out in 2008) I suggest you get yours before tomorrow night. Other than that there is the usual premiership football and some rugby on the BIG screen as we count down to the FA Cup Final on 15th May and the World Cup thereafter.
Have you made your mind up yet? This time next week we will probably wake up with one hell of an election hangover and history lessons suggest that if the predicted hung parliament is indeed the result we can expect to go through it all again fairly soon. What staggers me is the disproportion between votes cast and seats held - surely it is about time that electoral reform put an end to a situation where the party with least votes gets the most seats and vice-versa. Now, I'd vote for that.
Have a great bank holiday weekend.
