Dear subscriber
It may have been wet, and the pancakes a bit soggy, but there was a good turnout for the races in the Square on Tuesday, particularly as this year coincided with half term. John Howard from the Co-op won the golden frying pan for the second year running and it was all great fun for young and old as the photos will testify.
Radio 2 fans listening yesterday morning to the Popmaster music quiz on the Ken Bruce show heard our Grayshott postmistress Michelle Reidy taking part. And didn't she do well, winning an MP3 player after posting an impressive 27 points. It might have been an even better prize but Michelle couldn't recall three songs by Girls Aloud, which you would think was a bonus. If you missed the excitement, thanks to the wonderful BBC website, you can for the next week listen again - fast forward to 01:01.25
Next week is consultation week as we get to consider the health of our local hospital, the future fitness of the sportsground, and the irritations of traffic calming in Grayshott.
The Royal Surrey County Hospital Road Show comes to the Grayshott Village Hall on Wednesday evening and is a rare chance for patients to find out how their NHS foundation trust hospital ticks. There will be talks on Infection Control, the Role of the Matron, Cancer Services and Diabetes, as well as a chance to talk to hospital staff who work in these areas. The organisers would like you to register before attending and please don't forget to wash your hands.
Then on Friday evening and Saturday morning the current plans for additional traffic calming planned for Grayshott are on display in the Village Hall. The latest good news on this is that there is now an option being offered to delay implementation until the tunnel has been in use for a year to evaluate the actual effect on traffic movements. This seems eminently sensible to me and who knows maybe we can avoid coming out in lumps and bumps.
Finally the Grayshott Sports and Recreation Public Exhibition also on Saturday morning, but at Grayshott Social Club, is being staged to find out what we think of the plans for improving sport and recreational facilities in the village which include the replacement of our pavilion, which is on its last legs.
Tickets go on sale at Grayshott Books this weekend for the Rock'n'Horror Panto Show on 12th & 13th March. Considering the all star cast this year we can expect three sell-out performances. Oh yes we can! so, if you plan to go, it would be advisable to get your tickets sooner rather than later.
No tickets, just a single blue note, required for next Tuesdays Jazz night at the Social Club with the mostly irresistable Binky's Dixie Demons playing their foot-tapping tunes - highly recommended!
A big Grayshott welcome to Lorena who has just arrived from Romania to spend a few months in the village. Her educational visit has been organised by St Luke's Church who are working with a Christian charity in Romania called 'Children of the Promise' set up to help Roma Gypsy Children fulfill their potential. Lorena, it is hoped, will be the first of many youngsters to benefit from a visit to Grayshott and St Luke's are hoping for donations to provide IT equipment and enable their valuable work to continue.
Finally, can I apologise for my ill considered attempt at humour last week, and especially, if unfortunately like me, it resulted in your Valentines supper giving you chronic indignation. ;-x
Have a good week.
