No sooner had last weeks newsletter hit the ether, celebrating the disappearance of the snow, than more snow started falling, so I had better be careful what I write.
If you suffered damage to your roof and guttering from the build up of snow and ice don't be taken in by rogue traders circling the district. Trading standards are warning residents about dodgy cold callers who having got their foot in the door with the tempting offer of a cheap repair convince their victims that more work is required and having extracted the cash do a bunk.
Residents of Hill Road and Stoney Bottom have asked me to bring recent planning applications for infill development they are concerned about to your notice. They are numbers 52118 and 30289/004 and the details are available online at the EHDC planning portal. All local planning applications are considered by the Parish Councils Planning and Conservation Committee and they met last night so minutes of the meeting will soon be posted advising of their view. Interestingly even if they object this is only considered as one objection by EHDC and so the system relies on several additional objections from members of the public to trigger a full planning review and avoid a rubber stamping.
This weekend we have the delights of Karaoke at the Club tonight, the Scouts Quiz in the Village Hall tomorrow, and the Best Dressed Shop Awards Dinner at the Fox & Pelican on Sunday which is sold out.
Of course the main event is the start of the RBS 6 Nations and Englands first match against old rivals Wales at the Centenarian Twickenham at 5pm on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if England can reproduce the win they had against Wales in the first international ever staged at Twickenham, on 15 January 1910, when they scored a try in the first minute.
If you didn't get a ticket for twikkers you can still catch some match atmosphere at the Social Club where the pint of Guinness and half time pie have become legend. They have even laid on a warm up match at 2.30pm between Ireland and Italy.
Crouch, touch, pause, engage!
