I think everyone who has been in to see the newly refurbished Fox & Pelican agrees that Fullers have done a great job. With the new cosy snug, exposed wooden floors, great decor and lighting and fabulous range of new furniture the pub now really has the 'wow factor'.
On Tuesday night BIG members crowded into the Pub restaurant to catch up on the latest Grayshott news.
Among the items on the agenda was a presentation of £700 raised at the Carols in the square to Arthritis Care Grayshott (photo right) and Grayshott Day Centre.
There was also news of the annual best dressed shop awards dinner at the Pub now being held on Sunday 7th Feb to make way for Dicks golf club's AGM.
Grayshott Movies who had to cancel their last film due to snow will be showing their next film at the village hall on Wednesday 17th March. It will be Morris, a life with bells on.
Caroline Kaighin from the Grayshott Square Group advised that the next and last event, before the refurbishment due to commence in April, would be a pancake race to be held at midday on Tuesday 16th February.
Gillian Chard chairman of Party in Grayshott reported that the the Rock 'n' Horror Panto Show will be on March 12th/13th and the Sunday Funday on Sunday 20th June. There would also be a Grayshott Challenge team-based event held on Sunday 2nd May, with further details to follow. It is hoped to re-instate the Pyrotechnics Display this year on Sunday 7th November, subject to finding a suitable venue.
On Saturday morning at 10am there will no doubt be queues forming in Headley Road car park to join the litter hitters organised by the BIG Campaign to keep Grayshott tidy. Especially now we have been equipped with bin bag holders and all volunteer wombles are invited back to the Fox & Pelican at 10.45am for a complimentary beverage.
On Wednesday night it was the turn of Grayshott Concerts as Peter & Vivien Harrison addressed their members & friends at their AGM. Yet again the restaurant was standing room only - thank goodness for the long list of apologies. Entertainingly chaired by Grayshott legal eagle Anthony Ramsden there was a reflection of the last years wonderful concerts with Chloe Hanslip the Stabat Mater and Howard Shelley. Tickets are already selling fast for the next concert which is by all accounts the Grayshott premier of Handel's Messiah and will be performed by Excelsis and The Grayshott Festival Orchestra conducted by Grayshott Concerts Director of music Rob Lewis.
Looking ahead to next weekend I'd book your table at the Scout's Quiz Night at Grayshott Village Hall and mug up on seasonal facts - for example did you know that snow takes up to ten times the amount of space that rain does? Are you Chionophobic?
The snow has thankfully nearly all gone, except for the lesser known islands of Kingswood Firs, but just in case we get another dump Gordon Sanderson has reassured us that EGG is ready to scramble. And thanks to the 'pun master general' Doug Holman for that little gem - and just when I had thought we had egghausted all the egg yolks.
Gordon Benedict!
