Dear subscriber
Opera buffs were treated to a masterful performance by Nancy Yuen and co as Madama Butterfly beat the rain in Grayshott last Saturday - but only just. This latest gem from Grayshott Concerts followed a splendid buffet provided by Ben and his staff from the Fox & Pelican in the grounds of Grayshott Primary School and local photographer Steven Kentish was on hand to record the event for the grayshott gallery If you were also seperately snapped by Steve please visit www.stevekentishphotography.co.uk to view your portrait and you can order a print if you contact Steve.
It was a colourful weekend indeed in Grayshott as the many hanging baskets lining the shoprows were complimented by the lovely floral displays at the Grayshott Gardeners Summer Show in the village hall. Up to fourty hues were available for sampling at the 12th Crossways Inn beer festival and if you were there you'll be pleased to hear there'll be More Great Beer In The Mere!
In the Square at 9am tomorrow morning Mike Pennick will be getting in trim for his Borneo Challenge in aid of Barnardo's Mike asks me to pass on his thanks to all who attended the Barnardos's Quiz and for the very positive comments received, "I'm pleased to report" he says "that a cheque for £1,161 has been sent to Barnardo's as a result of everyone's fabulous support. My total now stands at around £2,400 towards the £3,000 target, if there is anyone left out there who would still like to sponsor me please visit www.justgiving.com/mikepennick and remember that every single donation makes a difference, thank you. On Saturday 19th July I will be cycling in the square, not round & round but in a fixed turbo trainer, please do stop by & offer some encouragement verbal or financial, anytime from 9:00am, I hope to complete at least 4-5 hrs cycling so will need every bit of help I can get."
And if watching Mike going nowhere fast wasn't enough entertainment at 10am for an hour the Pilgrim Morris Men will be doing what only Morris Men can do, with bells on.
On Tuesday between 4pm and 7.30pm there is a consultative exhibition in the village hall small hall on the proposals to redevelop Philips House where you can view and comment on the latest plans.
Ron Bustin asked me to remind you about the 'Landlubbers' Holiday Club at St Luke's, which is in the diary for the mornings of 4th - 8th August. It'll be a fun event for 5-11 year olds, with lots of activities based on a pirates theme, and split into three age groups. We still have some space for more children and application forms are available from Grayshott Books. Does that mean it is nearly time for a holiday
Every year the Hantsweb Awards help give recognition to deserving websites in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight by asking for nominations for awards in up to 12 categories. You will be pleased to hear grayshott.com has already been nominated for "Best Local Area Website" i.e. a site that serves its local area, including Parish and Town Councils. Judges will be looking at the range and quality of information made available to the local community. They will also be looking for evidence of regular community involvement in the upkeep of the website. If you think your village website or any other local website you use is worthy you might like to add your nomination before 3rd August.
I hope you will be visiting Mike's justgiving page, where you can read about his Barnardo's Borneo Challenge and make a donation. Giving has never been easier with websites such as justgiving.com which help make the most of gift aid. In response to, and to assist, the many local charitable sponsored & fundraising efforts there is now a section on the grayshott.com homepage entitled grayshott giving and I'd like to hear from anyone who would like to promote their cause.
Have a good weekend!
