Dear subscriber

Fortunately it did turn out nice in the end for the Grayshott School Summer Fair and Grayshott Summer Ball last weekend. The Ball was held in an elegant marquee in the grounds of Amesbury School and by all accounts a Good time was had by all as the revellers danced the night away to 'May Contain Nuts' - how very appropriate. Local photographer Phil O'Connor was on hand to snap the glitterarty and you can now view and order your prints online

Fingers remain very much crossed for tomorrow night too as Grayshott takes to the open air for the much awaited opera Madama Butterfly preceded by a sumptious Fox & Pelican buffet in the grounds of Grayshott primary school. Even now there may be a last chance to grab your seat if you phone Peter or Vivien Harrison 606666 of Grayshott Concerts - they have even more news this week as their Concert Success Attracts Another Sponsor this time Cain Manor join the concert party.

On Saturday afternoon the Grayshott Gardeners take shade in the Village Hall for their Summer Show. I was astonished at the large range of beautiful flowers and fresh produce on show last year its enough to make more than your fingers turn green. Go along between 2pm and 4pm and enjoy afternoon tea and a taste of summers bounty.

Playing live at the Club on Saturday night are The Revivals a professional five piece band playing popular covers from the 60's to the noughties featuring pop, rock and roll, country, R&B and ballads. You can hear them on their myspace page I thought they sounded jolly good. If you have been lovin the Tuesday Jazz nights at the club you'll be pleased to hear the next one is next week with the very talented and entertaining Binkys' Dixie Demons The club now has a new website www.grayshottsocialclub.co.uk which might look a little familiar - and there is news of the next texas holdem tournie on Sat 26th July.

Mani Rai of the Gurkha Durbar tells me he is helping to organise a Charity Bicycle Polo match at Knepp Castle on 3 August 08. The aim is to raise funds for The QEII Special Needs School, Horsham. Anyone wishing to enter a team (4 x players) should contact Mani (01276-677148 or email: raimanisudha@aol.com) before 28 July 08. Entry Fee per team is £100. All equipment (bicycle, mallets, balls, etc) will be provided, but you will need to bring a team strip.

Camra fans will know that this weekend The Crossways Inn at Churt hold their summer Beer & Cider festival, and it looks like a likely venue for Friday night early beers. Haslemere are holding their 2nd Beerex on 5th/6th September - more news next week.

Whilst you have your diary out - hot off le press is the news that the next event in the Square to raise funds for the Square Refurbishment Project is 'Plat de Jour dans le Place' on Sunday 14th Sep. From Party in the Piazza to the triumphant Paella in the Plaza we next visit French classics Moule et Frite and Coq au Vin - and there's sure to be plenty of vin - courtesy of le Café De Grayshott aka The Village Kitchen Caterers - and all to the sounds of Accordion Francais (if anyone knows where we can find one?) Tickets £17.50 par tête on sale soon at Grayshott Books.

C'est magnifique n'est pas!

8th jul - Good time had by all at Grayshott Summer Ball - An elegant marquee in the grounds of Amesbury School was the venue last Saturday for this year's Grayshott Ball. It was attended by 140-odd revellers (many of whom, towards the end of the evening, became extremely odd, particularly the "Wild Thing" bloke - who, incidentally, sends his apologies!) more...
