Dear subscriber
It seems the government, and now largely thanks to them - all of us, are stuck between a rock and a hard place, but what do we care? with all that is good going on in Grayshott there is no need to brood on our national woes.
Glorius
Those lucky enough to be at the latest Grayshott Concerts held last Saturday at St Luke's Church were treated to a Stunning performance by Grayshott's new choir Excelsis as they performed Vivaldi's "Gloria" with top soloists Judith Howarth and Yvonne Fontane. Congratulations to Vivien & Peter Harrison for producing yet another outstanding classic concert in Grayshott.
Oh Carol
It seems an age since we all stood in the Village Square on Christmas Eve enjoying a very successful Carol Service and this week the "Buy in Grayshott" (BIG) campaign was delighted to present a cheque for almost £800 raised at the carols to the Grayshott Square Group who are raising funds to refurbish the square.
A Wing and a Prayer
As usual the carol singing was led by the vicar of St Luke's, the hugely popular Rev Susan Wing. Sadly for us Susan is retiring next month and there will be a retirement party for her at Grayshott Village Hall on Saturday 29th March from 6.30pm to 10.00pm and you'd be most welcome join in giving Susan a good send off.
So, what's to do this weekend?
Break a leg
This weekend sees the return of the ever popular One Act Play / Supper Evening from the Grayshott Stagers. This time the plays are "Properly Processed" by Lynn Brittney; Directed by Brezetta Thonger, "The Eagle Eye" by Peter Rolls; Director: Jane Sargeant and "Plaster" by Richard Harris. All very funny! Performances are on 22nd & 23rd February 2008 and tickets, which include a Supper (vegetarian option only on request at time of placing ticket order), are available from Mrs M Walker (01428 605046). This event always proves extremely popular and invariably is sold out so early booking is advisable to avoid disappointment.
Baggy Trousers
It's nothing short of a rugby fest this Saturday at the Social Club with three 6 nations matches on the trot culminating with England v France at 8pm. After, and possibly during, the match is the SKA WARS gig - playing ska covers from the selector, madness, bad manners, desmond dekker, the beat etc - tickets are £10 but this is now almost sold out.
And all that Jazz
On Sunday evening is more live music from Campbell & Co modern jazz quartet at the Fox & Pelican This swing/bepop quartet comprise flugelhorn, guitar, double bass and drums playing a selection of jazz standards from the songbooks of Cole Porter, Gershwin and many more.
Loverboy
As a tribute to the late Heath Ledger, Movies in Grayshott will be showing the film Casanova on Friday 29th February 2008. The story follows the great ladies' man of Venice in his quest for true love, which he finds when he meets Francesca Bruni, played by Sienna Miller. Director Lasse Hallström adds various additional story lines including Casanova's Flight from the Vatican's inquisitor (Jeremy Irons), to make the film very entertaining.
The film will be shown at Grayshott Village Hall, with the doors open at 7.30pm with the film show commencing at 8.00pm. A licensed bar and light refreshments will be available. Tickets can be purchased on the door or in advance from Grayshott Books (Tel: 01428 604798)
That's it for this week - have a good weekend folks. Now where did I put my England shirt?
