Christmas Market
Once again the heavens opened on our Christmas Market last Sunday, but failed to dampen sprits, as hundreds of shoppers packed out the Fox & Pelican to browse amongst the 20 or so stalls offering a wide variety of gifts. BiG Santa and his little helpers gave away free gifts to over 150 children visiting the wonderful grotto created by Julie and John Bevis of Magical Rooms. The Christmas lights twinkled over the PiG tent which provided much needed sustainance on such a cold, wet and windy day with mulled wine, hot chocolate and Kaighin & Daughters hog roast on offer. Some photos of the day can be viewed on the gallery
"Party Piece"
Last night, tonight and tomorrow night the Grayshott Stagers perform Richard Harris's comedy "Party Piece" at the Village Hall Set in the adjacent back gardens of a pair of Victorian terraced houses in West London it is the night of Michael and Roma?s fancy dress house party. A barbecue is planned and the evening looks set to be a lively one until a string of hilarious disasters including a distinct lack of guests, a burning garden shed and a marauding zimmer frame threaten to jeopardise the whole event. The situation is further complicated by the arrival of Michael and Roma?s indomitable neighbour, Mrs Hinson, with her son and his second wife. Some tickets may still be available on the door.
Antiques Roadshow
Have you ever wondered what that family heirloom is worth? No need to ask Aspel, just bring it along to Keats in the square between 10am and 3pm on Saturday where valuers John Nicholsons, the largest independent auctioneer in the south, will be holding an Antiques Roadshow in aid of Macmillan.
"Hot Fuzz"
Coming up on Saturday week is the next showing from Movies in Grayshott at Grayshott Village Hall with hit comedy "Hot Fuzz" taking a wry sideswipe at American cop-buddy and action movies such as "Lethal Weapon" and "Die Hard", but with a decidedly English twist.
Tough cop, Police Constable Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg), finds himself posted from London's Met to the sleepy West Country village of Sandford. With garden fetes and neighbourhood watch meetings replacing the action of the city, Angel struggles to adapt to his situation. Worse still, he finds himself partnered with Danny Butterman (Nick Frost), an oafish but well meaning young Constable with a penchant for Hollywood action blockbusters. Just as all seems lost, a series of grisly accidents motivates Angel into action. Convinced of foul play, Angel realises that Sandford may not be as idyllic as it seems.
"Hot Fuzz", written by Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg, the creative force behind the successful comedy "Shaun of the Dead", features a stellar cast which includes Jim Broadbent and Timothy Dalton.
Movies in Grayshott is run by a small group of volunteers and operates on a "not for profit" basis. Formed in early 2007, Movies in Grayshott purchased high definition projection equipment and a 5 metre screen to give the audience the feel of a real cinema. The ambience is further enhanced by the sale of refreshments, confectionary and ice cream before and during the interval. An added bonus, not offered by most cinemas, is that there is also a licensed bar. All films shown by Movies in Grayshott have been licensed by the studio distributors and are identical to the cinema release.
As usual, the doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are now on sale at Grayshott Books just £5.00 or £4.00 for the under 16's
