Dear subscriber
Another busy weekend in Grayshott.
Macmillan are holding their annual Christmas Fair at the Village Hall tomorrow from 10am to 3.30pm - a list of the 25 stalls is now on their webpage and of course all the usual refreshments and lunch will be available. Entrance is just £2 and this will be a great opportunity for some early Christmas shopping.
Then in the evening is the next musical treat from Grayshott Concerts at St Luke's with Karl Jenkins' "The Armed Man - A mass for Peace" and Haydn's Cello Concerto no 2 performed by the Occam Singers and New London Sinfonia conducted by Director of Music David Gibson and featuring Guest Conductor Nick O'Neill and cello soloist Guy Johnston Winner BBC Young Musician of the Year 2000. This concert has not surprisingly sold out but there is a waiting list for returns.
On Sunday is the annual Pyrotechnics In Grayshott organised by PiG and, touch wood, the weather forecast is looking just fine. This event becomes increasingly popular so please allow extra time to get to the sportsground and if at all possible walk as there is very limited parking nearby although parking for the disabled is provided in the pavilion carpark. The sportsground opens at 5.30pm with plenty of children's rides & attractions and hot food & drink available and mulled wine and beers, etc from the pavilion bar. At 6.20 there is a fabulous fire show from "Chimaera" - a hot new attraction, with the fireworks spectacular from "Star Fireworks" professional display team at 7pm. As always it is free entry but please give generously to those buckets to ensure we can light the blue touch paper again next year. For safety sake please do not bring personal fireworks or sparklers which are hazardous not just on the night but also subsequently to the users of the sportsfield.
After the fireworks are over there is more entertainment in Grayshott, and a chance to warm up, with free live music being provided at both the Fox & Pelican with Vic & Erivan and also at Grayshott Social Club with 2nd Time Around Local musician Vic Cracknell is joined by singer guitarist Erivan to play a diverse range of songs from The Beatles, Paul Weller, Elton John, Van Morrison, Oasis and many more at the pub and Rock, Blues, Pop band '2nd Time Around' make a reappearance at the club.
This weekend is a good example of what makes Grayshott such a great place to live and work and every now and again this is recognised by the powers that be - and this is largely thanks to our ambassadors in chief BiG Dick Smith and Potty Phil Bates who together with Parish Council Chairman Clive Slaughter recently picked up the latest award plaque to add to our collection this time for being the 2007 Best Village in East Hampshire
Phil, and his mug shot, is rarely out of the grayshott.com news as the Grayshott Pottery Employee Benefit Trust continues to support, in so many ways, the community and various charitable organisation through their innovative Village Community Fund. Last week they were providing Winners Plates for Liphook in Bloom and next up they are holding a Charity Shopping Evening on Wednesday 14th November from 6pm to 9.30pm in aid of G.U.T.S., a local charity that raises funds for bowel cancer screening. Their contribution to the community has also received recognition this year with the prestigious Haslemere & District Chamber of Trade award Most Proactive Business in the Community 2007
Last week I mentioned the Christmas Choral Concert at St Luke's in aid of Arthritis Research and one eagle eyed viewer, thanks Liz, spotted that the date I gave was wrong so just to be sure this concert is on Sat 17th Nov - and therefore our annual Christmas Market which I mentioned is the following day at the Fox & Pelican is not on a Wednesday but Sunday 18th November. If you would like to hold a stall at the market please contact Ann Myers on 07791 104036 or email annmyers@dsl.pipex.com
Until next weeks What's On! ooh or ahh
