newsletter friday 26th october 2007 Dear subscriber Well we almost made it - but the difference between winning and losing can be such a fine line - anyhow congrats to South Africa who undoubtedly played the best tournament and deserved to chalk up their win. What do you think of the proposed new village Signs? I think they are splendid but you can make your views known on the Grayshott messageboard You might also like to give your views on the "not suitable for HGV" warning sign that appeared out of the BLUE at fiveways junction - which could alternatively have read "Not suitable for VDS" I'm pleased the Grayshott Society are already on the case of this latest example of unsympathetic signage in our village. So what's on this weekend? On Saturday night Rezurgence are holding their annual review "Something for the Weekend" at St Luke's and there is live rock music at the Social Club from The Sock Monkeys. On Sunday the Fox & Pelican's chill out night is with Charlie Beckerson you may have heard his band Qube. The Fox is also holding its first Jazz Night next Tuesday with Sounds so Familiar You'll see I've rearranged the homepage a bit. By popular request I've included some scenic photos of Grayshott from the about Grayshott page. If you have any good pics of Grayshott please email them to me. To display as much relevant info as possible on the homepage for the regular and irregular visitor there are now links to the last seven news items, the next seven events and the new noticeboard which displays mainly posters of upcoming events in a similar way to the various noticeboards in the village - except that there is always room, they are kept in date order and you don't need to scrabble about with rusty drawing pins. It is also a good place to put up seasonal info such as the Christmas Posting Dates sent in by the aptly named postmeisters Noel & Michelle Reidy. So if you are holding an event make sure your send the details for inclusion in the village diary and, if you have one, a poster for the noticeboard. I thought I heard fireworks the other night. Sure enough we are only just over a week away form the fireworks spectacular that is Pyrotechnics In Grayshott To help parents of younger children PiG has brought the event forward half an hour so the sportsground opens at 5.30pm on Sunday 4th Nov with all the usual fun of the fair and hot & cold drinks and food available to keep out the cold. At 6.20 there is a fabulous fire show from "Chimaera" - a hot new attraction, with the sensational fireworks display at 7pm. As always it is free entry but please give generously to those buckets to ensure we can light the blue touch paper again next year. And then Christmas is upon us - and sooner than you think - as the day before the pyro Macmillan hold their annual Christmas Fair at the village hall - then the first Christmas Choral Concert is held at St Luke's on Sat 13th Nov in aid of Arthritis Research - and our annual Christmas Market is the following day at the Fox & Pelican. Lets hope we don't get the rain like last year - but just in case the market will be held on terra slightly firma and be well tented. The market is preceded at 3.45pm by Carols on the Village Green with the arrival of Santa as the Christmas Lights are switched on at 4.00pm by our local MP James Arbuthnot. It's all too exciting for words.
