Dear grayshott.com subscriber

Before I look at the week ahead a few words about last weekends festivities....

Bravo! Bravo! The Opera held last Saturday in the grounds of Grayshott Primary School was just brilliant, and so many legs were broken by the end of the night some were left legless. You can read all about this "first" for Grayshott in Grayshott's Barber of Seville a success in brilliant sunshine and view more photos and even a short piece of video in the grayshott.com gallery Congratulations to Vivien & Peter Harrison of Grayshott Concerts for another virtuoso performance and many thanks of course to all their helpers.

The Fox & Pelican who also sponsored the event put on a sumptious buffet in the marquee for the lucky 100 supper ticket holders and also provided the "HoneyDew" bar. All in all a fantastic job - so well done to Ben & Emma and their staff.

Thanks also to the other main sponsor Tony Purslow Ltd - they staged their own show of stunning Mercedes-Benz models - and one very lucky punter won an SLK-Class sports car for the weekend in the raffle - How exciting! - I look forward to being taken for a ride.

The Grayshott Gardeners Summer Show held on the same day was also a great success with an impressive display of garden produce, fruit, vegetables and flowers. I had no idea just how many green fingers we have around Grayshott.

Now on to the activities this weekend...

On Saturday is the Scout Centenary Tea Party @ Scout Hut where all scouts and parents past and present are invited along to celebrate 100 years of scouting during an afternoon of fun and shared memories.

On Sunday there is another birthday party as the Grayshott pre-school playgroup Little Sunflowers hold their 40th Anniversary Celebration @ The Fox & Pelican with a BBQ and free childrens disco.

On the subject of birthdays - you may recall that Grayshott Fire & Rescue are also celebrating their centenary this year and there is news of their commemorative book which is now on sale at the bookshop and pottery. More info in Grayshott Fire Station makes it into the History Books I already have my copy and it makes for a fascinating read coupled with some interesting photos - if it wasn't for these local heroes I'd imagine there would be precious little left standing in Grayshott.

On the subject of books - Will you be queueing up at Grayshott Books at midnight a week today? If so you must be Potty about Potter. The last in the series 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' goes on sale and you can pre-order your copy at the bookshop. While you wait in nervous anticipation and wonder (will Hermione or Harry get it? or maybe get it on?) why not relax at the Movies in Grayshott and remind yourself where it all started in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone The bar on this occasion will stay open until the witching hour to further help soothe the nerves of all you muggles.
