Dear grayshott.com subscriber

Once again we are all crossing our fingers for good weather. This time it's for the 'hair raising' open air opera The Barber of Seville being staged tomorrow at Grayshott Primary School in front of a 600 strong audience. If you would like to experience this amazing event and haven't yet got tickets I hear there are a few returns at the bookshop.

The Fox & Pelican are not only sponsoring the opera but providing the bar and catering - so we wish new managers Ben & Emma Bagguley and organisers Vivien & Peter Harrison of Grayshott Concerts all the best. Break a leg guys!

It would appear just about everyone who is available is going to the opera and consequently they are still on the lookout for helpers to steward etc if you can spare your evening to help with the operations please call David Phillips 01428 606036.

All this rain we have been having has at least been good for the Grayshott Gardeners who would normally be having to water everything through a summer drought. On Saturday afternoon 2 to 4pm you can get to see the fruits and perhaps vegetables of their labours as they they hold their annual Grayshott Gardeners Summer Show in the Village Hall.

Have you noticed that the old toilet block has disappeared? You can start to see the advantages of repositioning it at the back of the car park as it has opened up the vista across the car park and green. I think once it has all been tidied up and the new block opened we will all conclude that has been a good example of how progress if carefully managed can be a good thing for the village. The new block is due to be opened on 23rd July and I hope Ferris Cowper who we have to thank for this enhancement will get to cut the tape and perhaps spend the first penny.

The next major village improvement is likely to be to The Square. Have you had a look at some of the design ideas in the window next to Flower Vogue yet? Please let us have your views - there are feedback forms in the Village Kitchen Caterers in the Square or you can download one here - or a simple reply to this email will do.

Also in the news this week Grayshott School Wins Artsmark Award - we are so fortunate to have such a great school at the centre of our community. Under the excellent leadership of headmaster Jon Hills, together with his team of superb teaching staff and with the addition of some great new facilities, Grayshott Primary School goes from strength to strength. It is great to see that Art & Music are still thriving at Grayshott as recognised by this award from the Arts Council. Many thanks for the kind remarks following the announcement in the last What's On of my son Christopher's graduatiom to his Art degree - he is of course is a former Grayshott pupil.

Our pre-schools must also take some of the credit for inspiring our children to explore their creative talents and often they are helped along the way by local businesses. Grayshott Pottery has recently been to PK Pre-School and helped the children with a Nice piece of Handy-work! The Grayshott Little Sunflowers are Celebrating 40 years of Preschool Education in Grayshott at the Fox & Pelican on Sunday 15th July and everyone is invited along to the party.

In amidst the Jamboree was the Grayshott Physiotherapy 'Family Fun Run and in this news item we have some great pictures of some of those who took part. It does look fun - I only wish I'd had the time and energy to take part.

Completion of the new toilets is scheduled for Monday July 23rd 2007.

Demolition of the old toilet block will commence on Monday 2nd July and unfortunately this will mean that no public toilets will be available from that date. The changeover of the main sewer connection, electricity and water cannot be carried out until the old block is demolished.

East Hants DC will, within the next couple of weeks, be arranging a formal opening and we will keep you informed of the details
