| Grayshott Parish Council purchased The Square in the centre of Grayshott and has initiated an independent working party to co-ordinate the refurbishment and make it a community focus for the village. The Grayshott Square Group has collated questionnaires, completed by residents in the village, and has an idea, now, of what the village would like to see included in the design for refurbishment. The Group is open to membership by any individual or organisation interested in supporting the aims and objectives of the Group please see our full Constitution. We hope that as many people as possible will join us and by doing so, show their support for the scheme.
We are very fortunate to have made contact with a landscape architect employed by Hampshire County Council whose role involves working closely with local villages and who is very keen, as are we and the Parish Council, to ensure that local residents are consulted and kept informed about plans for The Square. We hope to have plans drawn up and firm proposals in place by early 2009 for public exhibition. Details of the project will also be available on the village notice boards and on this page . You can email us at squaregroup@grayshott.com or write to the Square Group, 1-2 the Square, Grayshott, Surrey, GU26 6LQ.
Once the plans are drawn, we will then be in a position to look at costings, to enable us to source further funding from various bodies that have been recommended to us by the fundraising adviser at Hampshire 1st Voluntary Services. To access funds from sources such as local government agencies, district and county councils, lottery funds etc, it is necessary to show that we have local support and we would therefore urge you to fill in a membership form and return it to The Village Kitchen in The Square.
The Square refurbishment project has been accepted into the Hampshire Country Towns Initiative Programme and has been awarded £20,000 out of this year's budget and the services of a landscape architect, to draw up plans, conduct surveys and provide costings to enable us to seek further funding. We are also very hopeful of a substantial award from next year's budget and are currently awaiting confirmation of this. A Grayshott Square Project Team has been formed and is anticipating the installation of the scheme during spring 2010. A surface survey of the Square has recently been completed prior to commissioning an underground survey of services.
