Welcome back, we hope that you all had a very good Christmas and are now refreshed and ready for the year ahead. It is with great regret that we bid farewell to Peter Woolridge who has now left his current role within Scouts. However, it is with great pleasure that we are able to welcome him as the new Quartermaster and member of the committee. We also officially welcome two new assistant Scout leaders, Jenn Vernau and Lisa Vokes.
With our expanded leadership team we are hoping to be able to provide an even better experience for the scouts. Part of this is recognising our weak areas and trying to tackle them. We felt the first, and by far the worst, was the number of nights we had to re-schedule at short notice. This has been addressed by the hard work of Jo Philips who has been supporting the troop for the last term in an organisational capacity - the record low number of event cancelations witnessed last term was due to her exceptional hard work!
We feel the second area we must address is our lack of Badge awards. To help us tackle this Jenn has kindly agreed to take responsibility for this aspect and co-ordinate the planning and logging of badge work. It should, however, be recognised, that scout level badges take a lot of work to achieve so we are hoping to be able to award our first badges come the end of the summer term. These are the two first areas that we are working to improve, if there are others that you feel we need to address please feel free to contact us with your recommendations.
To help us maximise your childs scouting experience, there are also two areas that we feel we could greatly benefit from additional support from the parents:
1. Uniform. The uniform fulfils two roles; firstly it provides hard wearing practical clothes that wont mater if they get dirty or damaged and secondly it is a uniform which is part of the scout heritage and an integral part of Scouting. Full uniform (consisting of blue activity trousers, a green scout shirt and a red and black scarf with woggle) should be worn to all nights unless stated. Where full uniform is not required, the scout scarf should still be worn.
2. Troop night assistance There are a number of nights which are marked on the programme where additional support from parents is required to help the night run more smoothly and safely. If you feel able to assist on any of these nights please contact us and we can then supply you with any additional information you may require.
Within the programme there are a couple of events were we require additional information back, this is to allow us to plan the nights better, if this could be e-mailed back as early as possible that would assist us greatly.
We hope that you enjoy the term.
