2 sep - Football Coaches win Grayshott Village Cricket Six a Side - Despite the showers of rain, The Grayshott Cricket Village 6 a side competition aimed at giving villagers a go to play cricket turned out to be another excellent day. With teams from BIG (Buy in Grayshott), the Social Club, St Luke's Church, Football coaches and a Ladies/Vets team from the Cricket club, it was the Football coaches who became eventual winners in what turned out to be a close final. more...

10 aug - Thousands Flock to Golden Valley Poultry - Golden Valley Poultry has recently reached a landmark number of 2,500 customers travelling to Grayshott to buy chickens, this is over and above locals starting up keeping chickens. Many travel to the village from as far away as the Isle of Wight, London, Berks, Bucks, Herts, Essex, Sussex and Kent, due to their Internet website coverage, some driving for up to one and a half hours to buy! more...

5 aug - Arthritis Care Grayshott August 2010 Meeting - After Jacqui had welcomed everyone she reported some sad news as some of our members had passed away and there were a few minutes of silence to remember them. One of those was Joan Rogers, a very dedicated member, who would have been 100 years old this month: her family had produced a booklet about her life, a copy of which was given to us. more...

5 aug - Fancy Dress Day at Rocky's Plaice - Almost 60 children had a 'whale' of a time at Rocky's Plaice, the fish and chip shop that was the setting for St Luke's Church Holiday Club, from 26th to 30th July. Fancy dress day brought a wide range of costumes on 'undersea' and 'chip shop' themes, and the children enjoyed a mix of fun, games, singing and craft activities throughout the week. more...

4 aug - Grayshott Under 17s win Two Counties Youth League - Grayshott overcame town side Farnham on Sunday at Liphook to win the final of the U17 TCYL League final. Congratulations to the boys pictured here and coaches Paul Heath and Phil Coleshill.Bearing in mind this is only the second year of U17 cricket at Grayshott following re-introduction of U17 cricket at Grayshott in 2009 this is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the coaching policy at Grayshott. more...

30 jul - Grayshott's views ignored on Traffic Calming - Surrey County Council are planning to install traffic calming measures in Headley Road in Grayshott, which were planned as part of the Hindhead Improvements, despite Grayshott residents urging them to wait until the tunnel is open to assess the actual impact of the new A3 tunnel on traffic flows. Hampshire County Council on the other hand have already listened to the views of local people and agreed to postpone installing traffic calming measures more...

28 jul - Grayshott Square Refurbishment Nearly Complete - After a few delays work is now progressing well on the refurbishment of The Grayshott Square which should be largely finished in a couple of weeks time. Unfortunately, the stone that came from China in separate deliveries, was delayed for a total of three weeks due to shipping problems and this was out of the control of everyone concerned. more...

22 jul - Magdalene Odundo revisits Grayshott Pottery - Grayshott Pottery received some unexpected help with 'turning and fettling' from a previous intern last week. Professor Magdalene Odundo, now an international name in ceramics, worked at the Grayshott Pottery as part of her work experience in 1974 while a student at West Surrey College of Art & Design in Farnham (now University for the Creative Arts). more...

16 jul - Grayshott Gardeners Summer Show 2010 - With the wonderful sunshine and unusual heat and lack of rain recently, it wasn't a great year for the roses at Grayshott Gardeners' show on Saturday but the sweet peas, fuchsias, lilies and a variety of other summer flowers and flowering shrubs more than made up for that. Grayshott Village Hall was a mass of colour and scent as exhibitors and visitors enjoyed the show and of course the traditional chat over afternoon tea and homemade cakes. more...

16 jul - Grayshott Fathers & Sons raise £430 for Charity - Grayshott Cricket Club staged another Fathers v Sons night in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. 2010 was even bigger with four Fathers v sons matches being played on what was an excellent evening for cricket with plenty of supporters. 5 jul - Anything Goes at the Grayshott 24 - Grayshott Stagers presented Cole Porter's "Anything Goes" in Grayshott Village Hall on Saturday 26th June 2010. Nothing particularly exciting about that, one might have thought, except that Grayshott Stagers did this from scratch in 24 hours. On the evening of Friday 25th June, around forty people gathered in Grayshott Village Hall, and were told that the show to be presented was "Anything Goes". more...

30 jun - The Royal School's Prep 4 puts Grayshott on the map! - The Royal School's Prep 4 sharpened up their Geography skills on Monday, 14th June when they visited Grayshott village. With their base maps in hand the girls recorded all the shops and services available in the village. After the trip Charlotte Gill said that she enjoyed learning about the wide variety of shops in Grayshott and that there were so many estate agents and restaurants as well. more...

23 jun - Volunteer Centre Launch new service in Haslemere - Volunteer Centre Haslemere is launching a new drop-in service in the Haslemere area following a successful roadshow around the local area which included a stop at Grayshott Pottery on 7th June. Staff from the centre will be running regular sessions at new venues around the town, where anyone interested in volunteering can come along for a chat, to ask questions and find out about local volunteering opportunities. Katherine Clements, Outreach Worker for Haslemere said: 'We want to make it as easy as possible for people to come and talk to us about the opportunities that volunteering can offer. We work with hundreds of local organisations and are constantly seeking new volunteers to join us. more...

22 jun - Movies in Grayshott - "Creation" - Wednesday, 30 June 2010 - 'Creation' is the next film to be shown by Movies in Grayshott on Wednesday 30 June 2010. The film is about Charles Darwin and his struggle to overcome his own demons over the loss of a daughter and to keep the love of his deeply religious wife. In the meantime the scientific world is pressing him to complete his masterwork 'On the Origin of Species'. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Charles Darwin, with Jennifer Connelly as his wife. Martha West plays Darwin's young daughter, Anne, whilst there are also supporting roles for Jeremy Northam, Jim Carter, Paul Bettany and Toby Jones. The film depicts the emotional grief of Charles Darwin following the death of his daughter and also the conflict between science and religion. more...

18 jun - St Luke's Church supports homecoming for Lorena - Last month a small group from St Luke's church accompanied Lorena Varga home to Oradea in Romania. She had been staying with members of the Parish for 3 months and learning English as part of her studies for the Romanian Baccalaureate. It had been a very happy three months and a small support team will be helping her to continue with her studies and future career. more...

8 jun - Paint a gift at Grayshott Pottery - for your Dad or just for fun! - Adults and children are being offered another chance to get creative by painting their very own plate or mug, in the Grayshott Pottery workshops on Saturday 12th June 2010. This second painting event will be hosted by Grayshott Pottery's artists and designers and the Pottery are hoping that the day will be as successful as their Mother's Day event in March, which attracted around 35 participants. more...

7 jun - Arthritis Care Grayshott Annual Summer Lunch - It was wonderful to see nearly 50 members and guests in the Village Hall for the Arthritis Care Grayshott annual Summer Lunch, such a shame that sunshine wasn't on offer as well. 24 may - From Page to Stage in a Day for the Grayshott 24 - The third Grayshott 24 will take place on Friday & Saturday, 25th & 26th June 2010 hosted by the Grayshott Stagers. The idea sounds completely mad: to put on an entire musical show in just twenty-four hours. But that is what The Grayshott Stagers intend to do on 25th and 26th June, and they've done it before, in 1998 and 2004, and everyone involved had a really good, if challenging, time. This is how it will work. At 7.15pm on Friday 25th, all those who wish to take part, including Members of neighbouring societies, will gather in Grayshott Village Hall, ready to start work at 7.30. 21 may - Second Success for Soloist in Grayshott - Organisers of Grayshott's 'Martin Plays Mendelssohn' heaved a huge sigh of relief on Saturday night, 15th May, when their largest-ever orchestral event went without a hitch and to resounding applause from the 300-strong audience at St Luke's Church. The orchestra of 44 musicians forming the New London Sinfonia under conductor David Gibson was the largest ever to be assembled in Grayshott specially to perform the majestic Brahms Symphony No.1. But the star attraction for many concert-goers was the ever-popular Mendelssohn Violin Concerto performed by local hero Martin Smith. Martin's virtuoso performance was enjoyed by many of his family together with friends who grew up with him in Headley. Within seconds of the final chords, he was presented with a bottle of champagne by 10-year-old Shoshanah Sievers, who has just made local history by winning a place at London's Royal College of Music. more...

21 may - Clay creations at Grayshott Pottery! - Grayshott Pottery had another great ceramics success at the weekend, with their day of clay coiling and hand building day led by ceramics designer, Myra McDonnell. This latest initiative, organised by the event team at the Pottery, was attended by many would-be potters from far and wide. Participants made a variety of pots and vases both for indoor and outdoor use. Some made huge ornate serving dishes decorated with clay shapes, whilst others created small folded vases or large garden pots. Jane Sleap from Camberley said, 'It was nice to do something creative that you couldn't possibly do at home and with expert tuition. It was a tremendously relaxing day!' Stephanie Dennison from Normandy, backed this up and said,' It was a very enjoyable opportunity to leave the busy week behind and do something creative'. more...

21 may - Author Dominic Kemp attends signing at GalleryOne - Exhibitions at GalleryOne in Grayshott continue to impress and last Thursday saw the launch of their much-anticipated Sir Terry Frost & Modern Masters exhibition. The exhibition features original limited edition prints by some of the most significant modern masters of the 20th century, including work by Banksy, Damien Hirst and HRH Prince of Wales. Visitors to the opening night had the opportunity to meet author, Dominic Kemp who was signing copies of his newly released book, the first and only catalogue raisonné of original prints by Sir Terry Frost RA. more...

20 may - Archie Wilson awarded Most Improved Player in Haslemere Rugby Club Under 8s - At the recent end of season rugby awards at the Haslemere Rugby Club, local Grayshott boy - Archie Wilson who is 71/2 - picked up an award for Most Improved player of the year! Archie was amazed and thrilled to win the award - and is looking forward to the rugby season starting again later in the year. Haslemere Rugby Club has Seniors, Juniors and Mini rugby sections and welcomes everyone young and old alike. We have a friendly environment and a strong coaching and management team. more...

17 may - Annick & Phil Step out in the London Marathon - Annick Hollins and husband Phil completed the London Marathon this year in 7 hours and 5 minutes, just 5 minutes over their target time, which they are both thrilled about. Not a particularly fast time until you realise that they were walking because Annick is still recovering from major hip surgery. The walk was also undertaken in aid of STEPS , the UK's only national charity that raises awareness of all lower limb disabilities. more...

13 may - Open Weekend to help save Undershaw - Hindhead Hot Tubs, Andrews garden machine center, Kalglass conservatories, and TGB sheds are having an open weekend on 15th and 16th May. They are holding a Raffle in aid of the Undershaw Preservation Trust and their efforts to save Undershaw (the former residence of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) and for the proposed erection of a bronze statue on the corner of the crossroads pending planning permission once the tunnel is complete. 10 may - Creating Pots with Myra! - Grayshott Pottery is to be the setting of a clay coiling and hand building day led by ceramics designer Myra McDonnell. This is the latest initiative by the Pottery's event team who plan to hold two clay workshop events on Saturday 15th May. Both workshops on Saturday will last up to 2.5 hours and will be guided by Myra McDonnell who has a long history in the ceramics industry and started out in the 70's, by running a small scale industrial studio in Covent Garden. After much travelling and working in countries such as Finland and India, as well as in the UK for such companies as Carlton Ware and Anthony Paine, Myra has continued to teach and most recently was Chief Ceramic Technical Support/Lecturer at University of Creative Arts in Farnham. She is currently a freelance decorator and designer for Grayshott Pottery. more...

3 may - Movies in Grayshott - "Dean Spanley" - Wednesday, 19 May 2010 - Following the success of the film night in March, Movies in Grayshott will show Dean Spanley at the next film night on Wednesday 19 May 2010. Dean Spanley is set in 1904 and stars Jeremy Northam as Henslowe Fisk, who decides to take his ailing father (Peter O'Toole) to a lecture on reincarnation, where they meet an enthusiastic Australian named Wrather (Bryan Brown). Whilst attending the lecture, they become fascinated with Dean Spanley (Sam Neill) and when they meet again, they ask him to dinner, enticing him with a rare Hungarian wine named Imperial Tokay. more...

21 apr - Grayshott Community Plan to be Launched - The launch of the Grayshott Community Plan is taking place on Wednesday the 28th April at 8pm in the village hall, can you try as hard as possible to attend - we really need your support to make this a big success. This is a government initiative about local people having more control over their community and environment. It is a huge project that needs the support from ALL of Grayshott's people (young and old). 20 apr - Grayshott Cricket Club coach nominated for 2010 Sky Sports Coach Award - Congratulations are due to Grayshott Cricket Club's Club Coach, Andy Meears who has been selected by the Hampshire County Coaches Association as a 2010 Sky Sports Coach Award winner in category 2 "Outstanding Coaching Achievement". Andy has been invited as a guest of the ECB to attend the 3rd nPower Test England v Pakistan at the Brit Oval on Friday 20th August 2010, where 16 regional winners will be recognised on the day. 6 regional winners (3 from each category) will then be selected as National Finalists and will be invited to attend an ECB Sky Sports Coaches Awards Dinner. more...

18 apr - Grayshott Gardeners Spring Show 2010 - Grayshott's Spring Flower Show was held at the Village Hall on Saturday 10th April. This first of the two annual flower shows is staged by Grayshott Gardeners and is open to the public to enjoy in the afternoon. 17 apr - Coomers to Build funds for The Prostate Project - Coomers, a family run independent builders' merchant, is setting out on a fund raising mission in aid of the Guildford based Prostate Project. Over the next few months it is aiming to raise in excess of £1,000 for the Charity through its branches in Oakhanger, Bordon and Haslemere. Each Coomers branch is displaying leaflets about the Charity and the work it is doing in the fight to find a cure for prostate cancer. There are also awareness displays in the form of 'Prostate Project Pete' in each Coomers branch. Coomers Managing Director, Grev Coomer comments 'we believe in supporting local charities and the Prostate Project is probably the most relevant to the ongoing health and fitness of our customers. Early awareness of how this killer cancer strikes is vital to our community and that's one reason why we are creating the visibility in our branches. 16 apr - Walk of Witness - Good Friday - On Good Friday members of St Luke's and St Joseph's churches met at St Luke's church and then walked around the town with a large wooden cross to mark the crucifixion of Jesus. 30 mar - Charity Race Night to Raise the Roof for PK Pre-School - It's horse-racing season and although you might not fancy the royal box at Ascot this year, or trampling the divots at Aintree, don't hang up your hat and your race card yet. PK Pre-School is holding a Race Night Fundraiser at Grayshott Social Club on 8 May 2010 to raise money to help repair their roof which was badly damaged during the recent snow. The event promises to be a riot of fun, furlongs and finery as you are invited to back horses, sign up to be jockeys and trainers and gee on your favourites over pitchers of Pimms. There will be a buffet supper; every one's a winner 'balloon' raffle with some huge prizes and a late bar - all for £8 per ticket. more...

26 mar - 'Throw with Phil' at Grayshott Pottery - Residents and visitors are invited to take part in a new fun day of 'throwing a pot' at Grayshott Pottery on Saturday April 24th. The event is part of a new schedule of events launched by Grayshott Pottery, to give customers of all ages, the chance to have a go at creating a 'work of art' on the potter's wheel. This latest event takes place on Saturday April 24th 2010 from 10am until 4pm. Demonstrations will be given by expert thrower Phil Wareham, who will be on hand to give advice and the activities will last about 30 minutes each. Being troubled by a rat (Alice Morgan), which is under the control of the evil Boris (Nick Chilton), seems fairly normal in comparison with the other characters and goings on in the Motel. more...

3 mar - Arthritis Care Grayshott March 2010 Annual General Meeting - It was wonderful to see so many members at the village hall for our AGM. Chairman Sybil Saunders opened the formal part of the meeting by calling on President Peter White to welcome everyone. Peter thanked the committee and others who had helped run the club during the year. In her Treasurers report Joan Sims thanked Desmond Thomas for once again auditing the accounts which she explained were in a 'healthy' state. more...

2 mar - New Tidy Bear Bin for Lyndon Green Play Area - In an effort to encourage children from an early age to put their litter in the bin, Grayshott Parish Council and local benefactor Phil Bates have teamed up to provide a new, child-friendly litter bin in the children's play area at Lyndon Green in Grayshott. The new bin, known as the 'Tidy-bear', seems to be proving a huge success and Emma Sleigh confirmed that her children love 'feeding' the bear with litter! more...

A new initiative launched by Grayshott Pottery, will give customers of all ages, the chance to have a go at creating a 'work of art' by painting either a mug or a plate for their Mums on Saturday March 6th. Participants will be given either paintbrushes or sponges to create their gift, under the watchful eyes of the Pottery's seasoned artists. The finished pieces are then expected to be fired during the week, ready for collection from Friday 12th March, just in time for Mother's Day on Sunday 14th March. 26 feb - Grayshott Concerts' Patron to attend Messiah - With only a few weeks to go and almost all tickets sold, Grayshott Concerts organisers were 'over the moon' to hear that their Patron, Karl Jenkins with his wife Carol are planning to attend Messiah at St Luke's Church on Saturday 20th March. "This is wonderful news", said Concerts' founder, Vivien Harrison. "Karl is busy on so many projects - we're so delighted he's making time to come to Grayshott again." It has recently become clear that the performance by Excelsis with the Grayshott Baroque Orchestra under Robert Lewis, will be the first ever full performance of the work in the village. more...

16 feb - St Luke's Church to help Roma Children of the Promise - St Luke's Church has teamed up with a Christian charity in Romania called "The Children of the Promise" set up to help Roma Gypsy Children who are often treated as outcasts because of their ethnicity. Some of the children helped are also homeless orphans and the charity assists them by providing food, clothing and a chance of an education and the opportunity to develop music and I.T. skills. more...

8 feb - BIG Award to Amity for Best Dressed Shop in Grayshott - Last night (Sunday 7th February) saw the exciting finale of the awards for the best dressed shop in Grayshott. Judging is done twice a year, in the spring period and during the winter period, with marks awarded for cleanliness, shop display and general shop appearance. Marks are added up, but results are not known until the presentation dinner. more...

2 feb - Arthritis Care Grayshott February 2010 Meeting - Because the weather was relatively kind to us we were very please to welcome back many members for the first time this year. As Chairman Sybil Saunders opened the meeting she made a special point of thanking Diana Blanchard for stepping in to do the January monthly report for this magazine and other publications. 19 jan - Snowed under Grayshott goes to work on an EGG - Heavy snow falls during January in Grayshott have triggered the formation of Emergency Group Grayshott, or EGG for short, to help residents and shopkeepers cope with the extreme weather. On Saturday morning of 16th Jan dozens of volunteers met in the square before clearing remaining snow and ice from pavements and carparks around the village, restoring safe passage and access to key shops and facilities. more...

12 jan - 33cms of snow falls but the Pottery still opens! - As residents in Hampshire and Surrey awoke on Wednesday morning to a mass of snow and difficult driving conditions, and children celebrated the prospect of a day off school, Grayshott Pottery opened their doors as usual. 8 jan - Movies in Grayshott latest "Creation" - "Creation" is the next film to be shown by Movies in Grayshott on Wednesday, 20 January at Grayshott Village Hall. The film is about Charles Darwin and his struggle to overcome his own demons over the loss of a daughter and to keep the love of his deeply religious wife. In the meantime the scientific world is pressing him to complete his masterwork "On the Origin of Species". Benedict Cumberbatch plays Charles Darwin, with Jennifer Connelly as his wife. Martha West plays Darwin's young daughter, Anne, whilst there are also supporting roles for Jeremy Northam, Jim Carter, Paul Bettany and Toby Jones. 6 jan - Abandoned Vehicle Assistance - Police continue to urge motorists to take extra care when returning to collect abandoned vehicles, especially with temperatures set to plummet overnight. Members of the public needing to collect their vehicle from the A3 have been today ringing Hampshire police on 101, where a response has been co-ordinated to assist motorists in returning to collect their vehicles safely. more...
