After being the losing team in 8 Medstead and Stevens Cup finals since 2005 Grayshott Cricket Club won the Medstead Cup for the 12th time last week and what a final it was.
Grayshott continued their strategy of fielding some of our younger players in the Medstead Cup competition and it was one of our former youth players Danny Schwick who yet again proved that a game is never over ! Chasing 134 to win and with 50 runs required off the last 4 overs, it did not look good for the Shotts.
In the 18th over Danny Schwick took on the young Holybourne spinner and hit the 2nd ball for 4. He tasted blood, entered the zone, smoothly stroked 4 consecutive 6's, and the game had turned. His rapid 41 earned him the Best Batting Award.
This stunning piece of individual batting skill, recalling the exploits of Mark Sobey at the Bourne in the 1998 Stevens final , when the respective scores & match situation were remarkably similar. No doubt the youngsters playing will dream that they might do something similar in the future, and hopefully learned that no game is lost till the end.
