Haslemere Volunteer Centre covers a wide area ranging from Grayshott to Godalming, Chiddingfold and surrounding villages. The centre holds details of over 100 volunteering opportunities and is totally reliant on volunteers to help support the local community.
Manager of the Haslemere Centre, Sandra McHugh, says "We work with over 200 locally based organisations and are constantly seeking new volunteers to join us. The assortment of skills we are interested in is inexhaustible and ranges from electricians, drivers, administrators, gardeners, youth workers, health workers, classroom assistants and so on. In return, we are able to offer free training, guidance and support, as well as the option of talking to a member of the team on a confidential one-to-one basis.

Duties are taken very seriously and we make sure that all volunteers know their rights and responsibilities prior to undertaking any activity. It really is a great way to meet a variety of different people, and the feeling of satisfaction can be huge.
This National Volunteers Week, we are looking to raise awareness with people who are able to give some of their time, for free, weekly, monthly or even as a one off."
Outreach Worker, Katherine Clements, says "The support we have received this year from local businesses; Waitrose, Barista Coffee shop, Secretts Garden Centre and Grayshott Pottery, is really encouraging. It's fantastic that these businesses recognise the importance of volunteering in the local community and are actively supporting our work."
Haslemere Volunteer Centre is based at High Lane Community Centre and is one of four volunteer centres across Waverley & Guildford coming under the umbrella of Voluntary Action South West Surrey.
