New Support Network to be Launched in Grayshott

The new Grayshott Support Network (GSN) will be launched by local District Councillor Ferris Cowper on the morning of Thursday 29 April at the newly refurbished Fox and Pelican pub in the heart of the village. The focus of the event will be the care of the elderly with speakers from the Grayshott Daycentre, the Grayshott Carers Support Group, the Alzheimer's Society and Hampshire County Council's Adult Services.

The network will coordinate the efforts of volunteers and organisations to make sure that local residents get help in times of need. Anna Lubelska-Robins, from St Luke's Church, explained "the idea for the network came out of the way that people worked together during the avalanche of snow that hit the village this winter. Local residents pulled together to clear the snow and help the elderly. This made us realise how much more we can do with better coordination of our efforts".

Councillor Ferris Cowper said "One of the first things that the new Grayshott Support Network will do is to get everyone onboard with our new Two Doors Down programme. We will ask every single resident and business owner to make sure they know exactly who lives two doors down from their house, in each direction, and to find out if the people who live there might need any help. It's not much to ask, but if everyone did it then we would know for certain exactly where help is needed. Then the relevant charities, councils and community organisations could be alerted to where the need exists".

All groups and organisations that have a role to play in helping the elderly in Grayshott, will be invited to the launch to learn more about the GSN's plans and also to offer suggestions about what can be done better in the future.

To be sure of an invitation for your organisation please contact Anna on 01428 717090 or Ferris on 01428 609858.
