Last month a small group from St Luke's church accompanied Lorena Varga home to Oradea in Romania. She had been staying with members of the Parish for 3 months and learning English as part of her studies for the Romanian Baccalaureate.
It had been a very happy three months and a small support team will be helping her to continue with her studies and future career. Life for Lorena in Oradia has been very difficult over many years and she really appreciated the warm welcome and friendship shown to her in Grayshott.
Returning to her home environment will not be easy for her and every effort is being made to help the transition. Her mother invited the visiting group to her home and provided the most wonderful dinner to say thank you for all the help given to her daughter.
The good news update is that Lorena has been taking her exams and has been told she has done very well in the English modules!
During the stay this year the group continued their mission work at the Children of the Promise Foundation in Oradea helping Samuil with work he is doing with the Roma Children.
There were trips around the town with small teams of the children showing their favourite places and taking photos and a special outing to the Cinema for 40 children to watch a 3D film. All the children loved the outing, especially the 3D spectacles and popcorn!
After a few days in Oradia there was time to do some sightseeing in Cluj and the beautiful surrounding countryside.
There will be slide show presentations of Lorenas visit and homecoming at St Luke's Church and in the Church rooms at the St Luke's Gift Day on Sunday 20th June.
