Movies in Grayshott - "Dean Spanley" - Wednesday, 19 May 2010

Dean SpanleyFollowing the success of the film night in March, Movies in Grayshott will show Dean Spanley at the next film night on Wednesday 19 May 2010.

Dean Spanley is set in 1904 and stars Jeremy Northam as Henslowe Fisk, who decides to take his ailing father (Peter O'Toole) to a lecture on reincarnation, where they meet an enthusiastic Australian named Wrather (Bryan Brown). Whilst attending the lecture, they become fascinated with Dean Spanley (Sam Neill) and when they meet again, they ask him to dinner, enticing him with a rare Hungarian wine named Imperial Tokay.

Over the course of the dinner, Dean Spanley begins to recount what appear to be strange recollections of a past life. However, as his stories unfold, it becomes clear that Spanley and Fisk may share a closer connection than either of them realised.

Sam Neill is quite brilliant in the lead role as Dean Spanley, delivering a performance that borders on the absurd. Jeremy Northam plays the long suffering son, whilst Peter O'Toole is quite simply outstanding as the cantankerous father. If you didn't see this film when it was released in 2008, don't miss it this time around.

Dean Spanley will be shown on Wednesday 19 May 2010 at Grayshott Village Hall. Doors open at 7.30pm, with the presentation starting at 8.00pm. Ice-creams, light refreshments and the bar will be available as usual.

Cinema tickets are priced at £5.00, or £4.00 for under 16s, and are available from Grayshott Books (tel: 01428 604798) or on the door.
