Grayshott all set for 'Eroica' its biggest orchestral event ever

EroicaWith six weeks still to go, Grayshott Concerts reports that everything is on course for their biggest ever orchestral event - thanks to their new staging.

Chairman Anthony Ramsden explains: "Now that we have such a big stage, we can present major works which just weren't possible at St Luke's before. Beethoven's Symphonies need an orchestra of almost 40 musicians and now we'll be able to put on one of his best known and most epic works - Symphony No.3 (Eroica)."

The concert features the return of the New London Sinfonia under conductor David Gibson, already well known to Grayshott music-lovers. The programme will include one of Mozart's most popular works, the delightful Flute and Harp Concerto. Vivien Harrison, Artistic Director, has succeeded in engaging two young soloists each making their names on the world stage. Adam Walker, at only 22, is regarded as one of the five best international flautists and Sally Pryce is much in demand as harpist.

To commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of Mendelssohn in 1809, the programme also includes the composer's concert overture 'The Hebrides' depicting his historic visit to 'Fingal's Cave' on the isle of Staffa in 1830.

Will Benson of Applegarth Farm has sponsored Grayshott Concerts since their first event in 2004. " 'World-class performances - on your doorstep' really says it all!" said Mr Benson.

Tickets for the event at £20 are almost sold out but a few may still be available on 01428 606666.
