Last Saturday evening Movies in Grayshott presented a free showing of the Al Gore film 'An Inconvenient Truth' at Grayshott Village Hall, in partnership with the Greening Grayshott committee. They were delighted to be able to offer Free entry to more than 40 people who came to see it, as the event was sponsored by the generosity of local resident Phil Bates.
The idea came from Pam and Peter Hatch who had viewed the film and saw it as a chance for local people to find out more about climate change. Billed as "the most terrifying film you will ever see" An Inconvenient Truth brings home Gore's persuasive and fascinating argument that we can no longer afford to view global warming as a political issue - rather, it is the biggest moral challenge facing our global civilization. The song at the end reiterates the message that we have been asleep, but now it's time to wake up!
Greening Grayshott is trying to raise awareness of the effects of climate change and more importantly how we can tackle it as individuals in the village, by reducing our use of energy and water. Following the launch earlier in the year, Greening Grayshott is now set to move on to the second phase of its campaign and from talking to people in the village, they are confident that many people are actually doing their own thing to look after the environment and the Greening Campaign is keen to get people to discuss ways they can do more.
Members of Buy in Grayshott are re-inforcing the ethos of saving fuel by shopping locally and several people have indicated their interest in farming bees. These are just two of the ways we are encouraging to make Grayshott a greener village. Anyone who would like to join the supporters or would like more information can email greening@grayshott.com
