A study into sports and recreation provision in Grayshott is being undertaken with a view to the replacing or improving the ageing Sports Pavilion at Grayshott Recreation Ground.
Nick Chilton, chairman of Grayshott Sportsfield Committee said: "It is an old building which has been well-used but it is now in need of replacement. We are short of leisure and recreation provision in Grayshott so we need to find out what is needed and what is desired by the people here. We have to make sure that we get things that are going to be used."
This comprehensive review of sport and recreation in Grayshott will look at existing provision, site issues and demand. It will seek out opportunities to promote healthy and active lifestyles through all age groups and find ways of improving sports provision in Grayshott, hand-in-hand with surrounding areas.
The study commisioned by Grayshott Parish Council is being carried out by a highly respected firm of Sports Consultants, TrioPlus, and will be completed in three phases and has just published the report of the first phase 'establishing the baseline'.
A Grayshott Sports & Recreation steering group (pictured above) has been formed to assist with the study comprising Brian Archer, treasurer of the Grayshott Sportsfield Committee, Roy Fudge, chairman of the Recreation & Amenities committee, Nick Chilton, chairman of the Grayshott Sportsfield Committee, Colin Thompson, vice-chairman of Grayshott Parish Council and Peter Hatch, secretary & treasurer of Grayshott Social Club.
Funding for the study, which should be completed by the summer and will cost £7,000, has come from Grayshott Parish Council, East Hampshire District Council, Grayshott Sportsfield Committee and Haslemere Sports Association.
The group recently met up with Ferris Cowper, Grayshott District Councillor & Leader of East Hampshire District Council, at the pavilion and sportsground to review progress (pictured above). Ferris said: "Grayshott is a thriving community and deserves more recreation facilities than it has today. The purpose of this study is to identify that need and deliver better and up-dated facilities across the age groups and across all areas of activity. This is a fantastic opportunity to take one of the finest villages in Hampshire and make it even better."
