Grayshott Concerts have just announced that Dr Karl Jenkins has kindly agreed to become their Patron.
Artistic Director Vivien Harrison said "This is a huge honour for us all and for the village of Grayshott. Karl is considered to be the most successful contemporary composer of classical music and in 2004 entered Classic FM's 'Hall of Fame' at no 8, the highest position for a living composer. We are thrilled to have brought two of his most epic works - 'The Armed Man' and 'Stabat Mater' - to St Luke's Church. These moving compositions have been performed in venues both large and small around the world, and the CDs have sold in their millions. We like to think that Grayshott performances have been among the best!
Few of those who attended our 'Stabat Mater' in March this year could forget the occasion. Karl and his wife Carol joined in to the full and stayed on until the last CD, programme and vocal score had been signed. They both said how much they enjoyed the evening and were touched by the great enthusiasm and response they received from the Grayshott audience.
As Patron, Karl and his wife will have an open invitation to attend any of our events and have indicated they will do so when their busy schedules allow. We are hoping that they will be free to come to 'Eroica' in September.
We are sure you will be as excited as we are with this excellent news - and will want to give Karl and Carol a great Grayshott welcome when they join us again. We hope they will always feel they are among friends.
So, a big 'thank you' to all supporters of Grayshott Concerts! None of this would have been possible without their help."
'EROICA' 12th SEPTEMBER 2009
Tickets for 'Eroica' are selling fast, so if you would like to attend, we recommend you book as soon as possible. In addition to Beethoven's heroic Symphony No. 3, the programme features Mozart's 'Flute and Harp Concerto', written for two of his illustrious pupils - The Duc de Guines and his daughter. Our flute soloist, Adam Walker aged 22, is considered to be among the top FIVE flautists in the world. There are still a handful of supper tickets left - to be hosted by our sponsors, Applegarth Farm Restaurant. This is a rare opportunity to dine at Applegarth after hours, and a treat not to be missed.
