An afternoon cricket match between Grayshott Cricket club and their club sponsors Grayshott Pottery has raised £440 for Macmillan Cancer Relief
The funds, which were raised by a raffle and by club teas, were given to the Manager of the Macmillan Cancer Relief shop in Grayshott, Shirley Bates. Mrs Bates said, "We are delighted to accept this generous gift that will be passed on to Macmillan Head Office. The support for this event has been tremendous and I would like to thank everyone behind the scenes who helped raise the much needed money for this fantastic charity."
On the cricket pitch Grayshott Cricket Club members took on the staff and friends of Grayshott Pottery. The Pottery, who has supported the Cricket club since the 80s and has been main club sponsor the last 8 years, took their defeat well! The Pottery's final score was 171 runs for 40 'overs' but Grayshott Cricket Club beat them with a few wickets to spare!
Ken Williams, Grayshott Cricket Club Sponsorship Co-ordinator said, "It was a wonderful family day. We had lots of players, who over the years have moved away from Grayshott but who came back just to play this match. The idea behind this charity match was to raise funds and support of Macmillan but also to recognise the support that Grayshott Pottery has given us".
"It was a really great day", explained Glenn Myers, Vice-Captain of the Grayshott Pottery Team, "but the best cricket team won on this occasion. Grayshott Cricket Club as been a terrific club to sponsor and we will be back next year for a return match. We might even try and get in a bit of practice before the next time!"
