Having had to cancel the February meeting due to the snow it was encouraging to welcome a large gathering of members for this meeting which was also our AGM.
Unfortunately the community bus bringing some of the members broke down so Chairman Sybil Saunders began by giving out some notices in the hope that the bus would arrive shortly (it didn't!)
We had been asked by the Parish Council to bring the 'Greening Grayshott' initiative to the attention of our members. Leaflets were available which explained how, with a little effort, we could all help the environment whilst saving money and energy.
Holy Cross Hospital in Haslemere had recently opened a new hydrotherapy pool which it wanted our members to be aware of. Anyone interested was asked to contact Shirley Williams for more information.
As there was still no sign of the bus it was decided to begin the business part of the meeting and President Peter White thanked all the committee and helpers for making the Tuesday meetings a 'fun time'
The AGM followed the usual formal agenda, Chairman Sybil Saunders thanked Treasurer Joan Sims for ensuring that our finances were better than those of the country, in her own report she outlined our activities during the past year which included a lunch at the Georgian Hotel funded by an anonymous well wisher with transport on that day paid for by a grant from Grayshott Gardens. We also enjoyed two outings to see the blossom at Blackdown Apple Farm when it rained and to West Dean gardens when it was almost too hot. Three committee members, Sheila Dorsett, Elizabeth Hastilow and Sybil Saunders had served for 3 years but were happy to be re elected, Hilary Harris will join the committee and we welcomed back Jacqui Prendiville giving us a full nine person committee.
Member Leila Walker proposed a vote of thanks for the Committee and helpers and Sybil Saunders was presented with a bouquet in recognition of her hard work as Chairman over the past year.
The bus had by now arrived ( having repaired the jammed ramp) so all members enjoyed a 'Beetle Drive' with lots of prizes before tea, sandwiches and cakes were served
Our next meeting will be on Tues April 7th when we will be entertained by George Turner on the piano. Our Summer Lunch this year will be on June 2nd so please put this in your diary, anyone interested in transport to our meetings should contact Shirley on 01428 643625
