Villagers flocked to a sunny Grayshott Square to celebrate St George's Day and partake in a much-loved English tradition, Cream scones & tea.

The event was widely supported with volunteers baking scones and serving tea throughout the afternoon for local residents & business people.

Hundreds of local people attended helping to raise a further £360 towards the refurbishment of Grayshott Square. The event was organised by The Grayshott Square Group who have been working to raise funds and coordinate efforts to smarten the square and encourage greater use.

One of many ideas suggested for the new look square, taken from a survey of villagers, was to include a sculpture somewhere in the design. A display of local sculptor Ian Woodard's work was on hand with feedback forms to gather people's views. Some of Ian's work can also be viewed at Grayshott's Gallery One.

Commenting on the on the afternoon tea and celebrations Chairman of the group Colin Thompson said, "It was a really enjoyable afternoon. My sincere thanks to everyone involved, especially to the Grayshott Cubs and Beavers for the hand-crafted display about St George and hand decorated plates for the partygoers and to all the local people for their encouragement and support."

The next event planned to raise money for the Square is the Paella in the Plaza on Sunday 11th May with a three course 'al fresco' spanish lunch from the versatile Village Kitchen Caterers accompanied by live music. Tickets have already sold out and there is now a waiting list at Grayshott Books.
