The "Buy in Grayshott" (BIG) campaign was delighted to present a cheque for almost £800 to the Grayshott Square Group. The money was raised from a collection following a very successful Carol Service in the Village Square on Christmas Eve last year, led by the vicar of St Luke's church, the hugely popular Rev Susan Wing.

Dick Smith, chairman of BIG, was astonished at the generosity of so many people, and thankful for all the help from other groups in the village, including Rezurgence, Grayshott Concerts and Party in Grayshott.

Barrie Archer, a member of the Grayshott Square Group, an independent voluntary committee coordinating the refurbishment efforts, was delighted with the cheque and added that "we are extremely grateful to everyone for recognising our cause and to everyone who kindly gave during the Carol Concert".

The Square Group was formed last year once the Parish Council had completed the successful purchase of the Square. Chairman of the Group, Colin Thompson, reported that "many ideas had been submitted to improve the Square and various successful events had already taken place. It was hoped that over the course of the next few months a design would be adopted with funds in place to carry out the necessary work. Public support for any scheme would be vital."

Future fundraising events for the Square include a "Paella in the Plaza", a Spanish themed day with an al fresco meal served in the Square planned for May. Tickets will be available to purchase from March.
