Four village roads in Grayshott are set for a facelift thanks to the generosity of two local businesses.
Grayshott Pottery and Visual Assets have been instrumental in creating the eye catching signs that not only celebrate Grayshott's 5th Village' Award in recent years, but also sport the village's much loved logo.
Ed Snell, Managing Director of Grayshott Pottery said, 'The Pottery staff are tremendously pleased that the Pottery's Employee Trust Fund is able to help in this way. We are delighted to be able to support the village.'
The new signs, that will be placed at both ends of Headley Road; on the A3 entrance to Crossways Road and on Whitmore Vale Road, were created after extensive consultation with residents and stakeholders in Grayshott by the project team, headed up by Phil Bates of the Grayshott Society.
As well contacting residents, societies, landowners and councils, Phil Bates who is also Trustee of Grayshott Pottery, admitted that changing the signs hadn't been an easy task. He said, 'The work involved has been pretty extensive. I personally have had around 200 emails and had countless meetings and phone calls between interested bodies. We have also had to arrange site visits by all the utility groups such as the gas, electricity and telephone companies. But now we've got the signs agreed, we are delighted! This makes all the hard work seem really worthwhile!'
Grayshott Pottery, that was itself voted Haslemere Chamber of Trade's 'Most Pro-Active Business in the Community 2007', funded the purchase of the village signs through its Employee Benefit Trust Village Community Fund but the overall sign design and Grayshott logo, was created by local strategic design business, Visual Assets who donated its professional services.
The Chairman of the Parish Council, Clive Slaughter has enthusiastically endorsed the New Village Sign project and said, 'The Parish Council is very thankful for all the effort and hard work that has been put into this project. We would particularly like to thank Grayshott Pottery's Benefit Trust and Phil Bates and Russell Cupitt who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Not only do the signs look good, but it was all done at no cost to our residents!'
Dick Smith Chairman of BIG (Buy in Grayshott campaign) said, 'I am delighted that we now have signs that enhance the village and greatly appreciate the funding that has come from the Pottery'.
