On Saturday morning Mike Pennick was to be found cycling in Grayshott Village Square, not round & round, but in a fixed turbo trainer. Well wishers stopped by to offer some encouragement and to contribute to Mike's fundraising efforts towards his Barnardo's Borneo Challenge which he starts this September.
Mike will travel to Borneo to take up this 3 part challenge. Mike explains "We start with a 2 day climb of Mount Kinabalu, at over 13,000 feet this is the tallest mountain in South East Asia. After a brief day's rest we begin the 2nd part of the challenge, cycling 170km (over 100 miles in old money) through the jungle paths & tracks of the Crocker Range over 2 days. Another brief rest & on to the 3rd & final challenge, a whitewater raft journey down the Pados river through the scary Pados Gorge"
Mike aims to raise at least £3,000 for Barnardo's whilst completing the challenge and is well on the way with around £2,400 raised so far. Last month Mike, with help from his wife Liz and son Andrew, held a Quiz Night in Grayshott Village Hall which raised £1,161 as a result of everyone's fabulous support.
