In only a few weeks, the St Luke's Organ Appeal has reached over halfway towards its target of £15,000, thanks to the generosity of local people.
Treasurer John Haine announced on Monday that the Appeal had achieved well over £8,000 from donations so far, with more arriving every day.
Chairman of the fund-raising committee, Gordon Sanderson, is delighted with progress. "This total is excellent news and we've plenty of fresh ideas ahead to raise all the funds needed. It's not easy, but with everyone's help we're getting there."
St Luke's is hosting a Christmas concert on Sunday 7th December to add to the fund. Staged by Grayshott Concerts, the programme called 'It's Christmas!" with Grayshott's new choir, Excelsis, and the Choristers of St Edmunds together with a sparkling brass ensemble, is packed with Christmas music, carols and readings. Many old favourites - and some new ones too. Tickets are available from 01428 606666.
Several new ideas have just been launched. "We're offering to deliver Christmas cards within the parish boundary for donors to the fund", said Mr Sanderson. "Just let us have your cards with the Organ Appeal stamp on - and we'll do the rest for you." Stamps are obtainable from sponsors Kaighin and Daughter. Grayshott Books and at St Luke's Church and can be 'posted' at the same places. More information is obtainable from 01428 605819.
Later on, the committee is planning a 'Santa's Sleigh' to tour the village with news of the Appeal. Donation forms can be obtained from St Luke's Church office or by contacting John Haine on 01428 604703.
Repairs on the 100 year old organ are expected to start in Spring 2009.
