Fastest ever sale of opera tickets

Madama Butterfly
In less than seven days, over half the tickets for Grayshott's summer open-air opera have already been sold.

Grayshott Concerts are hoping to achieve a second sell-out success repeating last summers first ever outdoor opera which attracted over 500 music lovers to the village. This year, the community group in association with Buy In Grayshott, are staging Puccini's much loved masterpiece "Madama Butterfly" performed by national touring opera company Opera Box.

Organiser Vivien Harrison could hardly contain her excitement. "Madama Butterfly is one of the best-loved grand operas in the repertoire and we are very fortunate to have a top soloist in the title role. Nancy Yuen, born in Hong Kong, has made 'Madam Butterfly' her signature role, winning great international acclaim and singing the part all over the world" she said. "It's wonderful to be able to attract Nancy to Grayshott and she will receive a very enthusiastic welcome indeed!"

This years performance was close to being cancelled had it not been for the support of local businesses, Barons BMW and Lloyds Pharmacy. "Productions on this scale are hugely expensive to put on," said co-organiser Peter Harrison, "Ticket receipts alone seldom cover costs so it's terrific to have their support." he added. "This will be a great show - right here in the centre of the village. There will never be a better opportunity, locally, to see opera at its best."

Buy In Grayshott's Chairman, Dick Smith is delighted with the support of another local sponsor, the Fox & Pelican, who are providing bar and catering on site. "This event was a great success last year and will be even better this time." he said. "There are already over 100 reservations for the alfresco gourmet supper and we can accommodate up to 150."

The performance will be sung in Italian, with English surtitles so everyone will be able to follow the drama.

Opera tickets at £25 and supper tickets at £20 are available by ringing 01428 606666 or in person at Blaze House Art, Crossways Road Grayshott or at www.grayshottconcerts.co.uk.
