It was standing room only for many party-goers at Grayshott Village Hall last Saturday.
The occasion was Grayshott parishioners' 'Farewell' Party to their Vicar, the Revd Susan Wing, after 10 years as incumbent in the village.
Organiser Polly Rhodes said: "It was just amazing to see so many friends and supporters together to wish Susan well in her retirement. We had no idea how many would come along and we soon ran out of chairs." "But it all worked well as everyone took it in turns to have a sit-down." added co-organiser Sheila Austin.
Many brought along food and drink to share together and by the start the tables were laden with party fare.
Churchwarden, Gill Pain, said: "Susan Wing has been an inspirational Vicar for Grayshott and has done a huge amount for the village much of her works unseen but individually appreciated by all those whose lives she touched. She will be greatly missed, and the massive turnout tonight is a true recognition of her legacy to us all."
Dick Smith, Chairman of 'Buy In Grayshott' presented Susan with an inscribed silver salver from businesses and other organisations in the village as a token of thanks and appreciation for all she had achieved. The Revd Dennis Lusby, on behalf of all Susan's parishioners and friends, then presented her with the framed original design painting of the stained glass window, installed at St Luke's to commemorate the Millennium.
The Revd Wing said that it had been a very difficult decision to make to leave behind so many good friends but she felt that with so much achieved, it was the right moment to go. "St Luke's is in good hands." she said thanking all those who had been her helpers in the Parish over ten years.
