A very blustery Shrove Tuesday in Grayshott battered the eighteen brave contestants as they took part in the Great Grayshott Pancake Race held in The Village Square. A crowd of supporters and onlookers cheered on the runners whilst they negotiated the course around the square whilst flipping their pancakes as the wind tried to whip them away. After five close heats and semi finals the eventual winner, just beating Peter Harrison from Grayshott Concerts into a close second, was Chee-Man Chan pictured centre above who, representing Dinomite magazine produced by Grayshott based Signature Publishing, had dressed for the occasion.
The runners, many in fancy dress, pre-registered at the Village Kitchen Caterers who provided them with heavyduty pancakes for the race. The pancake race was organised by The Grayshott Square Group in association with Grayshott Parish Council to restore a once annual event in Grayshott. The Square now owned by the Parish Council made for the perfect venue with no worries about closing the road.
Plans are now afoot to refurbish the square and villagers and local businesses are being asked to support the campaign and fundraising by joining The Grayshott Square Group as free members. Most of the runners took the opportunity to sign up to this worthy cause on the day and membership forms can viewed and downloaded here
After the successful Pizza in the Piazza held last year more fundraising events are planned for this year - the next one "Paella in the Plaza" will be in the spring - details coming soon.
