Last night (Sunday 3rd February) saw the exciting finale of the awards for the best dressed shop in Grayshott 2007. Judging is done twice a year, in spring and autumn, with marks awarded for cleanliness, shop display and general shop appearance. Marks are added up, but results are not known until the presentation dinner.

This year Damian Hinds, the prospective candidate to represent East Hants as their Parliamentary representative at the next election, attended the dinner to make the presentations. BIG's own photographer, Phil O'Connor, was on hand to record the event. More of his photos can be viewed in the grayshott gallery

Dick Smith, chairman of BIG, stated that standards seem to be higher than ever and it was very difficult separating many of the businesses. It was therefore decided to have both winners and runners-up in each category as well as the overall winner with over-all runner-up.

With over 50 people at the dinner, held in the Gurkha Durbar Nepalese Restaurant in Grayshott, excitement was mounting as it finally came to announcing the winners.

There were thirteen category winners and runners-up all receiving framed certificates. These were:

Amity, Kaighin & Daughter, Wings-Wood Chinese Restaurant, Gallery One, Grayshott Books, Gurkha Durbar Nepalese Restaurant, Magical Rooms, Zaman Opticians, Bathroom Grayshott, Elizabeth Gordon, The Famous Chef, Keats Estate Agents and Wine Rack.

There were two overall runners-up with extremely high marks, these being Enchantment and Simmons Interiors.

Beside a large framed certificate, they both received a small bottle of bubbly.

The winner and "Best Dressed Shop in Grayshott" champion for 2007 was Blaze House Art.

They were presented with the shield a certificate and a bottle of pink champagne.

Lynda Davis, the proprietor of Blaze House Art, was ecstatic with delight, almost dancing a jig as she went up to receive the award.

Damian Hinds commented on what a great idea the competition was. He felt sure that the community at large appreciated the efforts so many businesses put in to make shopping in Grayshott such a pleasant experience.
