Bathed in sunshine, the Grayshott Sunday Funday got underway with an energetic performance by the Mayflower Morris dancers. The colourful carnival procession that followed and full programme of entertainment culminating with the Temperance 7 Jazz band ensured that this popular Grayshott village summer celebration remains a firm family favourite.

Once the dancing was over the growing audience moved onto Lyndon Green to enjoy the traditional maypole dancing from Grayshott Primary School followed by a spirited performance of the School Choir.

The carnival procession was for the second year running led by the fabulous Batala Portsmouth band from the Village Hall down through the village to St Luke's church as thousands cheered them and the following walkers on their way.

This years carnival theme was "Your favourite book" and the Little Sunflowers were the first catch of the day with their float "Commotion in the Ocean".

The next instalment yet to be published was 'Harry Potter and the 1st Grayshott Beavers' starring Andy Smith as Hagrid and a whole host of bespectacled Harry Potters waving their wands under the watchful eye of Sally and Claire.

Ben Bagguley manager of the Fox & Pelican generously sponsored Batala Portsmouth again this year and provided much needed refreshment to the Funday crowds as well as looking after the hard working team who spent their weekend preparing for the event.

The climax of the afternoons entertainment was the eight strong Temperance Seven playing their humorous jazz renditions. It has taken many years to book this world famous band for the Grayshott and it's many thanks to T7's banjo player Mike Deighan who lives in Grayshott for making it happen.

Taking his opportunity, as the T7 took a break to aquaint themselves with the bar, Peter Hatch, Chairman of Party in Grayshott thanked all and sundry for making the day such a success. In particular he thanked the Parish Council for the use of the Greens the many volunteers and the professionals who had made the day run so smoothly and safely for everyone.

The event was once again supported by a number of other local businesses. Food was provided by a Kaighin & Daughter Hog Roast (Caroline pictured below), whilst Kemal and the Kapadokya Boys fired up the BBQ and Sudha and Mani Rai and their staff from the Gurkha Durbar served up mouthwatering Nepalese cuisine. All the proceeds of the Village Bar run by licensee and pig committee member Brian Archer go towards the event. The Pimms ladies, Vivienne Thomson & Karen Flood, and numerous bar voluntary staff kept the liquid refreshments flowing and thanks to Grayshott Social Club and their suppliers Carlsberg, Hogs Back Brewery and Matthew Clark the bar was kept well stocked.

Months of planning go into each village event from the hard working PiG committee. On the weekend itself numorous tents have to be erected, the bar built, etc and the committee were this year more than ably assisted by Vice Chairman of the Parish Council, Colin Thompson, and his trailer and that village stalwart Phil Bates. PiG Committee members Peter Knifton of Bryanston Electrical with his assistant Rob Dunbar wired in all the power as Baz Sharpe put his carpentry skills to the test on the Bridge too far. The community raffle was organised by Gillian Chard with help from Debbie Norman who unfortuntely missed the day as did a number of villagers celebrating Anne Myers birthday abroad. None worked harder than MC Brian Flounders and manpower manager and PiG Secretary Treasurer David Phillips who also found time to take these wonderful pictures.
