After 15 years, Dr David Barrett stepped down from his role as Chairman of the Grayshott Village Hall Management Committee at the Annual General Meeting on 12 July 2007. He initially joined the committee as Hon. Treasurer, a role he was to perform for 10 years. Under his stewardship this role, which had for many years been held by the Village Bank Manager, developed from one of 'book keeper' to one of 'financial manager'.

Since taking over the mantle of chairman five years ago David?s enthusiasm has remained undimmed. Although David is the first to point out that he has not been personally responsible for all of the projects carried out in the past few years, a number of very significant achievements - Redecoration of the Main Hall, Redecoration of the Small Hall, Obtaining a permanent alcohol license, Replacement of the Main Hall Curtains, Refurbishment of the Dressing Rooms, Upgrading of the Caretaker?s accommodation - have been completed during his time as chairman.

A presentation was made by members of the Management Committee in recognition of his hard work over the years.

About Grayshott Village Hall

Grayshott Village Hall, officially known as the Grayshott & Hindhead Institute and Village Hall, was built on land donated by Mrs Plymton Smith, who lived at Hurstmere, in memory of her brother, Dr Richard Plymton. Further funds for the building, designed by Messrs Reich & Macdonald and built by Messrs Chapman, Lowry and Puttick, were raised by gifts and public donations.

The Village Hall is one of the largest in the area and is financed by grants from the Parish Council and other bodies, as well as the fees received from lettings. Regular and long term users of the hall include the Grayshott Stagers, Grayshott Gardeners, Grayshott Flower Club, Grayshott Bowls Club, the Grayshott Women?s Institute and Arthritis Care
