By the time the doors opened at a minute past midnight, the queue stretched across The Square in Grayshott. Some had even turned up in fancy dress in honour of the special occasion. Julie Stevens said "We are thrilled that so many people have turned up at midnight. It is a real party atmosphere!"

The bookshop opening had been preceded by a showing of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by Movies in Grayshott at the village hall.
