St Luke's Church family celebrate in style

"Members of St Luke's Church family celebrate the culmination of their '40 days of Purpose' Lent workshops"

Members of the St Luke's Church community celebrated in style recently by hosting one of the most unusual suppers ever to be held in the Parish.

Whilst breakfasts, lunches and suppers are held frequently in the church rooms for groups of all kinds, the most unusual feature for this extraordinary supper was that it was held within the church itself. Pews were pushed back to make room down the aisle for tables, exquisitely laid with white tablecloths, flowers and glasswear, all atmospherically lit by the warm glow of candlelight. Soft music played in the background while the church was filled with the murmer of joyous discussion and warm fellowship.

St Luke's member, Penny Thomas, commented, "In the past our churches were often used as village meeting places, for local events and many other activities, not just services, so why not use the wonderful architecture and beauty of St Luke's as the setting for our great celebration?" The three course menu included succulent smoked salmon followed by chicken cordon bleu, then chocolate brownies and fruit coulis. "A very special feast in a very special place" said Penny.

Vicar of Grayshott, Revd Susan Wing, added, "Everyone enjoyed good food and fellowship together, with many staying on afterwards to transform the church back to its traditional layout ready for Sunday services. Our church family have dined together in God's House and we are now ready to worship together once more."

The supper was prepared by Steve and Jan Cooper with help from a host of others whose work contributed to the success of the whole occasion.

The supper was the culmination of a series of workshops and study courses entitled 40 Days of Purpose attended by over 80 members of St Lukes Church over the 40 days of Lent followed by the traditional "Walk of Witness" on Good Friday. Over the Easter Festival many members of the congregation joined the Spring Harvest Christian Holiday Teaching Festival at Minehead. More information from St Luke's Church Office 01428 606703
