Grayshott Youth Club Relaunched

After weeks of uncertainty, Grayshott Youth Club members last week received the news they had been waiting for.

They are to receive a grant of £2,000 from East Hampshire District Council to enable the Club to reopen in the village on a regular weekly basis from January. The money will go to fund a second youth worker to help to run the club which will welcome young people from Grayshott from school years 8 & 9 (ages 12-14 approx) and provide a range of interesting activities for them.

Grayshott's District Councillor, Ferris Cowper said: "I'm absolutely delighted that the Grayshott Youth Club is getting a new lease of life with the support of EHDC. There has been an active club for young people in Grayshott for a number of years and, thanks to the support of a new group of helpers, it will be taking off again in the new year."

Diana Lovelock, one of the new team agreed: "There have been a few ups and downs, but it's wonderful for our young members that we've now got the green light to go ahead and continue our activities."

The relaunch follows a research project carried out by club members last summer with the support of Hampshire County Youth Service which established a definite need for the club and started the process of raising funds to bring it about.

The Club's Treasurer, Peter Harrison is equally enthusiastic: "There is so much on the go in the village already and our young people shouldn't miss out. There are great plans for the future and now we have the funds, we can start putting them into action. Only a couple of years back, the Club led the way to raise over £50,000 for a new Skate Park so if we set our minds to it, we can achieve almost anything!"
