Readers of the UK's No 1 horsy teen mag, PONY Magazine, have been flooding to www.ponymag.com to play Buzz off - the exciting new online game in aid of Horses In Need a national fundraising campaign for equine welfare charity, the Brooke. The Grayshott-based PONY Magazine teamed up with the Brooke - a British charity helping hundreds of thousands of working horses, donkeys and mules in the poorest parts of the world - to create Buzz off, with the aim of encouraging young riders to get involved in raising money for working equines, whilst having fun.
Users of ponymag.com enjoy 'splatting' flies that would otherwise bother the hard-working equines, which are featured in the game, while they enjoy a well-earned break. But, Buzz off isn't just about having fun it's got a serious message, too. In the time it takes to play the game, the Brooke will help one hardworking horse, pony or donkey in countries such as Jordan, India and Kenya where working animals are essential to a family's survival. Ponymag.com users are encouraged to help make sure the Brooke can continue to help these equines by taking part in the Horses In Need campaign.
Web editor, Kelly McCarthy-Maine says, 'When PONY Magazine became a media sponsor for Horses In Need, we looked at how we could use every aspect of the award-winning PONY brand to help the Brooke get their message across. Partnering with the Brooke and creating a themed game seemed like the perfect way to get young riders enthused about helping Horses In Need and it's really paid off. Since Buzz off went live, we've been inundated with emails from users who want to get involved, and some of their fund-raising suggestions have been quite incredible! We hope this enthusiasm will be converted into a big fundraising effort that will really improve the lives of people and equines who aren't as fortunate as we are.'
Buzz off has created around a 50% increase in visits to the ponymag.com games room, with thousands of users playing every day. If you'd like to see what all the buzz is about, visit the games room at www.ponymag.com, or visit www.thebrooke.org/hin to find out more about Horses In Need.
