Grayshott is in the final stages of preparation for its biggest ever Summer Classical Spectacular.
Grayshott Concerts, in association with Buy In Grayshott (BIG), is planning to stage one of the world's best loved operas "The Barber of Seville" open-air in the heart of the village. The opera will be performed live, in full and in English in the grounds of Grayshott Primary School at 7.30pm on 7th July 2007.
Organiser, Vivien Harrison, told Grayshott.com: "This is the largest event we've ever attempted, and there's a host of things we still have to do for the night. Everyone has been so supportive and we've been astonished by the amount of interest people have shown. Our plans won't be complete until April but we've had dozens of enquiries, so we've started a reservations list and it's half full already!"
The Grayshott classical music group's reputation has grown significantly since its formation in 2004. Their last event, Mozart's 'Requiem', a sell-out concert at St Luke's Church in October 06, was widely praised and chosen by one music critic as one of the highlights of the year. They have now succeeded in attracting OperaBox, the leading touring opera company, to visit Grayshott during their 2007 UK tour and the programme itself has attracted sponsorship from Tony Purslow Mercedes-Benz and from the Fox & Pelican, Grayshott. Grants have also been awarded for the performance by East Hampshire District Council and Hampshire County Council.
Dick Smith, Chairman of BIG, said: "We could never expect to put on such high quality performances at such economic prices without help from sponsors, supporters and audiences. We confidently expect that 'Barber' will attract 500 people or more to Grayshott. This Opera is such fun that, at these prices, even those who have never attended an opera before, will not want to miss this one. It's all part of our support for Grayshott by providing excellent music, virtually on the doorstep of everyone in the community."
Tickets at £25 and £20 will go on sale at Grayshott Books (01428 604798) in April or can be reserved by contacting Grayshott Concerts on 01428 606666 (daytime) or 01428 714119 (evenings/weekends).
