Shotts Ladies Make Cricket League Debut

A tremendous performance from the Grayshott Ladies team in their first ever League game at Grayshott against Alton in the Womens Hampshire Development League

On a hot day for cricket with the Sportsfield looking in excellent condition, Alton batted first and started slowly against the bowling of Lucy Gilbert and Emma Sampson. Lucy Gilbert in particular bowling an excellent line and length and it took until the 10th over before the Shotts broke the opening partnership as Lucy captured two wickets in successive balls. Alton's Hayley Kemp came to the crease and made an immediate impact with her batting and positive running between the wickets. All the time she was at the crease the run rate increased until Louise Egan bowled her for an excellent 23 runs.

As Alton pushed for runs wickets fell, including an excellent catch by Diane Dobson. Skipper for the day Heather Bridge continued to ring the bowling changes as Soizic Cheeseman picked up two late wickets. Rosie Dymond picked up her first wicket. Alton's tail did not wag as they finished on 125 for 7 off their 35 overs

Throughout, the Grayshott fielding was excellent especially being such a hot day and their first full game of 35 overs in the field.

In reply, Grayshott openers Heather Bridge and Lucy Gilbert applied themselves well as Grayshott started in a similar fashion matching Alton's run rate for the first 15 overs.

It was clear to see as time progressed their confidence grow, in particularly Heather Bridge, as runs started to flow from the bat. Alton continued to ring the bowling changes to break the Grayshott stranglehold and it was seventh bowling change Chapman who did the damage capturing two wickets in one over, including the wicket of Heather Bridge for 16 runs

As Grayshott looked to increase the run rate, they lost a couple of more wickets, Sam Rance and Lucy Gilbert. This signaled the end of Grayshott's run chase as Soizic Cheeseman and Jane Moseley set in for some batting practice with some excellent drives as both Ladies finished not out 6 and 7 respectively.

Grayshott finished on 97 for 4 off their 35 overs. An excellent game of cricket played in a good spirit by both teams
