Centenary fire celebrations at Grayshott

It's a big year for Grayshott Fire Service as they prepare to celebrate 100 operational years of service.

Mark Brittain was the guest speaker at the Grayshott Parish Council Annual Parish Assembly and outlined the preparations in hands and also gave whistle-stop talk on the history of the Station which was very warmly received.

Grayshott station is writing a book that maps the entire history of the station right up to the current day. To help forecast printing quantities if anyone is interested in obtaining a copy of the book could they please indicate their interest by emailing mark on mark.brittain@hantsfire.gov.uk

Formed in 1907 as the independent Grayshott and Hindhead Fire Brigade. It had a Chief Fire Officer and twelve volunteer Fire-fighters. The princely sum of £106 was raised and paid for a cart, hose, standpipe and 9 hydrants. They attended their first incident in February 1907.

One hundred years later the station now attends more incidents in one year than they attended in their first thirty years. A stark contrast to the ever changing nature of the Fire & Rescue Service to meet the changing demands of the community.

Material from the book will contribute to the exhibition they will be hosting as part of an open day on the 23rd of June.

The event is hoping to include live demonstrations of an RTC exercise, the USART team and the chip pan fire unit. There will be numerous other displays including fire vehicles ranging from vintage appliances through to modern day equipment helping to map the history of the station.

A poster campaign is also being launched which the schools team will use as part of a safety awareness campaign with the local schools.

The grand finale will be a procession of the vehicles through the village as part of the village Jamboree.
