In January 1898 there appeared the first editionof the Grayshott District Magazine the forerunner of |
| The Grayshott Parish Magazine. In that first number the editor wrote: In this, the first number of |
| our Magazine, perhaps a word of explanation is needed. |
| We believe that people who live together in a village ought to know each other, and that common |
| interests help people to know each other and-make better neighbours. Our aim, then, is to keep |
| in touch wiih the common life of the place and help to make |
| better known whatever ought to be of common interest. We, in Grayshott are not in the strict |
| sense of the word a district. But we are united in common worship. We have our Schools and our |
| Clubs, our Classes and our Entertainments. So far as space allows |
| we hope to tell month by month what is going on in these different ways. It is always, we find hard |
| to get anything thoroughly known in the district. The Magazine, we hope, will do something to |
| make it easier. We hope to have many readers. |
| That is the tradition which the present editorial staff has inherited and the principles which the first |
| Editor set down are stiIl the guiding principles of the present editorial staff. |
| The monthly circulation of some 500 copies encourages us to believe that the Grayshott Magazine |
